Cataclysm Level 85 Protection Paladin PVP

This is the 1st in 3 part series I am doing for Prot PVP. I go over my spec glyphs and gear and gemming. Any advice or different specs you all can think of and why shoot it at me.

Sorry there are actually other Paladin's who play Protection and know nothing about the spec, gear, geming, glyphing, enchanting involved. Bit selfish to think you are the only one who knows about it? Anyways the next 2 will be based on action in BG and Arenas.

I'd prefer a text version of that information, honestly.

I'm having pretty good success with prot PvP at level 80. Still alright at 85? How much do some of the changes, especially the PotI nerf that isn't on Live, hurt?

Did a little 4.0.3 PVP action first time touching PVP in about 3-4 months. I had fun with new talents. Cata BG are shut down as of last night today so I didn't get a part 2 in.

personally im going to be going for http://wowtal.com/#k=-bxO0_81.a8t.paladin.R-Xy0R talent and glyphs im not to crazy about the 9% haste and would rather have 12% damage on seals also id rather have dazing shield than increased stun range basically because its a daze and lasts for ages thats my personal opinion and ofc aint telling you you should do this and blah bla.

hehe for sure! I think sotp and jotp are situational. sotp definitely leads in dmg. Dazing I think works best in 5's I would think. Charge in off the bat and catch the healers close make them spread out more.

For me, the issue is between focus shield and hammer of justice glyphs. If there's any chance I can hit a second person with AS, I'd rather let it do that. My experience so far with prot pvp has been that casters are my main nemesis, and that I'm slightly more susceptible to kiting than ret pvp. Thus, I went with the HoJ glyph.

I noticed in these builds that you don't take Protector of the Innocent and Eye for an Eye, despite taking talents that buff your Word of Glory.

Is PotI weak talent at 85 level? Also, is it better to have longer judgement range instead of refleting 12% magical damage?

EDIT: This is a build I would go for: http://wowtal.com/#k=pw3EdqkU.a8t.paladin.qsqsfA

I took PotI, Eye for an Eye, and took glyph of turn undead to annoy warlocks and dks with their precious little pets. What do you think? (I didn't play beta, I'm just guessing based on tooltips and my lvl 80 bg experience).

EDIT 2: Whoa, I didn't notice the new tooltip of PotI, it now doesn't heal you if you heal yourself, only works if you are throwing heals at others so it is worthless for self-healing centered playstyle.

EDIT 3: Am I talking to myself?

For me Long range judgments are awesome for when you're being kited by range which is like 99.9% of the time.

Idd the new longer range judgements are great for us but ive noticed it procs mages frost shield so if we use it at range we get slowed automatically which i think is rather dumb

Thanks for the info + tips + PvP video towel, I've actually been strongly considering turning my Ret spec into Prot for Cata. This thread definitely pushed the favor of Prot up a notch :]

Edit: On an unrelated note, is there a download link for your UI? It's pretty slick.

thank you for your effort, but blizzard will not let prot specs of any class be viable in pvp... lets enjoy prot pvp while it lasts

Well, currently in Cata Beta, Ret is kind of shitty anyways. Besides having a tough time with casters, Prots not too shabby. But we'll see.

actually GC himself said he wants Prot to play a viable role in PVP whether it's carrying flags or defending nodes, so you're wrong and we already have been nerfed cus the healing was a bit too OP.

I've PVP'd all of WotLK and TBC as prot. so to the True Prot Paladins, Prot PVP will never die.

you spec and glyphs are wrong, first off DG doesn't help you at all and while it does help you parnter or team mates, it wont save their lives in all likely hood. secondly putting one point into Reckoning is dumb, both points should be added there. also JotP is useless for prot as all it does is speed up swing time which benefits prot in nearly 0 ways, especially when being kited (as you've mentioned). all the points in JotP should be moved into PotI. Next up glyphs, Judgement hits like a wet noodle for any spec and CS glyph is much more valuable than Judgement glyph. Dazing and Focused are both a MUST. drop hoj glyph for Dazing. you shouldn't take both Kings and Might glyphs, pick one based on what is on your arena team and or bg group and drop the other for Justice glyph as thats is your primary seal for pvp (I pvp as ret and use this seal and trust me, its worth it). Truth is only usefull on targetse that don't die after the first TV/Exo (or AS/SotR) burst, ie healers.

spec should look more like this
