Offhand damage and offhand weapons

K so I'm not really sure if this is the appropriate place to post this since I am new, but I'll give it a try. So my question is; I understand that the offhand item slot reduces damage by 50%, but does a "offhand only" weapon have any other side affects? or is it just the slot that reduces the damage, and since its offhand only thats the side effect, or will a offhand weapon in the offhand slot act any different than a one hand in the offhand slot.

The "Off-hand" in the tooltip just restricts what slot the weapon can go in. The 50% damage penalty is applied to the slot, not the item.

Going purely on the listed DPS, both of these weapons would do the same DPS in the off-hand slot:
