Druids of the scythe and the human worgen

    SPOILERS, i suppose
    hi there,
you guys might have noticed that the lore concerning the worgen origins has been retconned. They used to be some interdimensional wolfman from the space between spaces or whatever summoned by Arugal. However, now we know that the first worgen were from a group of druids, the druids of the scythe( originally Druids of the pack), who shape shifted into feral worgen and eventually lost their humanity (well, they were night elves actually...but you got the idea...) to the feral nature of the worgen. As we can read in the Faded Journal (loot from worgen mobs in gilneas), they departed from the night elf society seeking true freedom in the wild. They were unable to control the savage nature of the worgen though, and became increasingly savage. That is until that fellow Ralaar Fangfire appeared. He could control the form, and took over control of the original pack, supposedly teaching the others how to retain their sanity. Yet we know that they were locked away, and put into an eternal slumber deep beneath a tree in the emerald dream.
so i was wondering... what went wrong with the original druids and Ralaar?. As far as we know (by the end of the faded journal), they were able to control themselves. And more importantly, how come a druid ability become some infectious disease like curse, spreading among humans?

Thanks for the post, but quite a few people know this. But quite a few don't know, so it is sort of worth posting.

1 nit pick here: The lore involving Ur was not "retconned." It's more along the lines of "Ur was wrong." After all, Ur was a Mage, trying to explain Druidic affairs and the Emerald Dream. So it makes sense that he didn't understand any of it. Argual's work came from Ur's work, which made him ill-informed and that Night Elf female wasn't told the whole story because Elves are secretive like that.

it still leaves the question of how the form became infectious, or why the now apparently sane druids of the scythe were put to sleep...

Druids of the Scythe fell asleep after Malfurion banished them (or at least the feral ones) to the Emerald Dream. As for how it became an infection, I am not sure enough of any reason to give an answer.

If I remember correctly, it isn't the druid's "curse" that affects them its arguals curse that jumped down to the local town below and spread into the city. When the curse hits the druids see that they unleashed the entire box of horrors ( time line Druids>ul>argual-scythe (( same time there)) > Gilnease.) So in a sense they might just feel like they started it all. Really interesting considering NE lore, maybe they are changing culturally to be more accepting?
