MY GOD Andrea87... what did you do to that poor case?!

  2. #2242
I did cut off the fan grid behind, to improve a bit airflow... And did that using no dremel tool at the time, as the computer was already built and I didn't want to take everything off / clear steel dust around. That case is like 8 years old, still doing a great job since my first build inside (at that time it was an athlon 64 3000+ on S939 ). There's a fan picking air in right in the first 5.25" slots, and that one on the back side. There are some other cuts, not seen in the photo, one on the front bay, near the hard drives, and another one on the side panel, to fit a 12 cm fan blowing directly into the video card, taking off some of the heat the 460 blasts out. This other two cuts were made with a dremel tool and a jigsaw, the drive's one before rebuilding the machine with an athlon II x4.

See at first I thought "meh, it doesn't look that big"... then I saw the size of the PCI-e connector relative to the rest of the card... and yeah, that thing's huge (that's what she said.)

Edit: woah woah woah... what's up with the new smilies?

That's a pretty good cable job, considering the non-modular PSU

I built my current machine 15 months ago, and have sold it for 750, market value is around 700. Most of the parts I purchased on sale, the X6 was discounted since I got it on release day as well, so I probably saved a good 300 dollars on parts. Forgot to mention I have a Thermaltake TR2 750 watt PSU in my current computer, getting a SeaSonic 520 watt for my new rig. The only things I am keeping from my current desktop are my 2TB hard drive, my Blu Ray reader and one of my two DVD writers. The CPU and SSD I am getting are from a friend who bought them a couple of months ago but decided to downsize his rig to an i5 2500k, so I am getting both for 300 bucks. I am not really losing much money in the long run, I wind up making 300 bucks from it actually since the parts I did have to buy were covered by the cost of my desktop.

So care to explain what the WU score is? In a nutshell. :P And how long generally it takes to get each one of those done.
A work unit is one set of protein folding completed, and varies based on the size of the unit. If I leave it idle in the background while I'm playing my PS3 and whatnot, it can complete in a decent set of time.

This mostly uses your GPU, and the program will even throttle itself down if you start using the GPU for other things.

I believe ASUS are planning to release 3 new "monster" cards:
    Ares Mars GeForce GTX 595
Mars II (dual GTX 580, the one george linked)
    RoG GeForce GTX 580 MATRIX

my new graphics card comes tomorow, when it does i may show you all a picture of my cables, you can help me tidy them, at the moment they are a complete mess, the air flow inside must be horrible, i explained before in this thread, but my cables from the PSU are too short, and barely reach to the components, so i have no room to hide them, they just go direct from PSU to mobo, looks like a bomb exploded in there
    Too cool for a signature

the matrix is already out, afaik the 595 was cancelled, and the mars 2 is too damn expensive, oh, and using any of the features on teh matrix voids the warranty, asus is really stacking up some winners there :P

Not if you use the ASUS-programmes that are horrible.

There is such a thing as too short of time before the next upgrade?
You're making me feel bad for planning to go from Sandy to Ivy Bridge (And from a Fermi GPU to Kepler/Southern Island) next year :/

Only a change of CPU and GPU. Honestly this Thooms guy is giving that other guy crap for wanting to update and he won't even need to buy too many new things.

My Antec ISK 100 arrived today letting me (finally) finish up my mITX build.

I'm very pleased with the results. It has enough power to do office work (email, browsing, word/typing, etc), is very silent and seems to pull almost no power at all. The final pricetag landed on 2315 SEK which corresponds to around $230. Here are the specs again:

    ASRock E3501 Fusion MoBo
AMD E-350 Fusion CPU; 1.6Ghz Dual Core
AMD Radeon HD 6310 (integrated graphics)
    4Gb 1333Mhz Corsair RAM (2x2)
    250Gb Seagate Momentus 2.5" 7200RPM HDD
