Speaking of audio, I'm just about to throw my pair of Klipsch S4's out the window. I hadn't even heard of "sibilance" before (none of my headphones had it) but with the S4's it hit me like a TRUCK and meant literally 40-50% of my music collection was unbearably painful to listen to. I had seen the word pop up in one or two reviews but it said that most people aren't affected by it. Well apparently it affects me enough to make my ears bleed.

I spend 90% of my time listening to music on the move so I said "fuck it", and I'm buying a pair ot Senn IE8's. They're going to set me back $550 NZD but I've had enough dicking around with cheaper earphones. I'll hang on to my HD558's for PC/gaming, love them <3

Regularish setup on mine (I7 on Asrock extreme 3, 8GB Ram, 80GB SSD) with a couple of notable bits:

GTX480: On par for most things with a 570, runs hotter, takes a bit more juice but often a lot cheaper
Dell Perc 5/i: Hardware raid 5 with a decent amount of fairly fast drives (5 1TB F3's) means bulk storage that can keep up with an average SSD for throughput
Asus Xonar: Can't rate these cards highly enough, forget 5.1 headsets etc etc, a GOOD pair of headphones + dolby headphone is much better. I still use a cheap headset but will be upgrading at some point.

Sandy Bridge E Build & Benchmarks

First off, I hope this isn't wrong of me to post it in here, but the 'Post your setup' thread seems to be derailed quite a bit.

So I thought I should put this up here, just to give people a look into the new Sandy Bridge E system.

    Spec is as follows:

    Cooler Master HAF X (2x200m top, 1x200m side, 1x200m front, 1x140mm back)
    Corsair HX1050W
    Gigabyte X79-UD5
    Intel i7 3930K & Corsair H100 (Push/Pull with 4x bequiet Shadow Wings)
    4x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1866Mhz
    2x128GB Crucial m4 (RAID0)
    1TB Seagate Barracuda (Media)
500GB WD Caviar (Backup & Games that don't fit on RAID)
    160GB WD (Documents)
MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 570 (Had a second Gigabyte Windforce 570, Aria tested as faulty but took credit note instead as I wait for new cards)
2xSony DVDRW Drives (no need for bluray as I used the TV for that)
    2 x iiyama ProLites, 24" and 22"
    Razer Naga Epic
Soon to be Logitech G510 (currently G15)
    Logitech X530 5.1 surround system

    The Build

So, the pics mostly speak for themselves in the build process:

And then something broke, had a few issues and had to send parts back - they found the Gigabyte GTX 570 was the problem and I removed that from the system.

Also had a change of heart, the OCZ was only a few weeks old, but decided if I was going SLI with the new cards next year as well, stepping up to this would be a better idea:

    http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...209_234957.jpg

Everything went back together ok (minus the Gigabyte 570) and in the meantime this arrived:

Along with the BoogiebugXL 'Desk' pad! The other half is getting me the Logitech G510 for christmas.

    Final Update

Currently waiting on nVidia to release their Kepler architecture cards to move the 570 on and purchase either the top card from either AMD or nVidia or two of the ones just below that in SLI/Crossfire.

Secondly - Gigabyte are recalling their X79 motherboards due to them blowing up on harsh overclocks, so I'm hoping for a Revision 2 model at some point in the next few months.

Dont expect a rev 2, they only recall the ones in the shops, so gigabyte can fix the bios. People who already bought one should update the bios themselves. AFAIK its just software related nothing to do with the hardware

It's the VRM design, if you update the BIOS (a temporary fix) the CPU will throttle itself and underclock to stop the board overheating. It's a stop-gap until they can fix them all.

    Yup, congrats to Fierae!

Is that an Asus Xonar DX + a TV Tuner card I see in one of the first pictures as well? ;p

Also, why not use a 230mm fan in the front of the HAF X? That's what is there originally.

It was an Asus Xonar yes! I gave that away in a competition though, will pick up another one when I can! The 'tuner' card was actually the Gigabyte Wifi/Bluetooth card that came with the board, I did have a TV Tuner card but don't use it in this

And you have corrected me there! The original fan is still in I think - it was me being mis-informed of the size!

The Apple Cinema display is a 27" 2560x1440 IPS and exactly the same price as Dell's 27" Ultrasharp with the same resolution.

I would be interested in comparing notes on what you think about the mobo and CPU stability after you've had it up and running for a few weeks. I've been shocked by how hard it can be overclocked without generating excessive amounts of heat. From 3.2 -> 4.8 with just a H100 cooler and minimal OC experience = not freaking bad.
