Very nice setup Elisha, really jelly. March can't come soon enough, I fooking want a Swiftech H220! I guess I will be waiting for a while to get a new CPU cooler either way, I have no intention of replacing something short term when something I want is coming out. My H80 is dead after 10 months of ownership, so I am gonna RMA it and sell the replacement.

Just got done putting together another rig for a friend.

    CPU - i5 3570k
    Cooler - Xigmatek Gaia
    Mobo - ASRock Z77 Pro3
    Ram - 2x4GB Crucial Ballistix
    GPU - Asus DC2O-2GD5 GTX 660 Ti
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
Case - Fractal Design Arc Midi
PSU - PC Power and Cooling Silencer MKIII 500W

Really a nice setup for a mid budget build. The PSU fit rather nice with the black/white color scheme of the fractal case. He'll be adding an SSD in a few months though I'll probably do the install and move OS and what not.

Forgot to take a quick pic of my work and cable management. Will snag one later and upload it.

you already bought it? Cause i'd go for a extreme4 rather than this. Not a great overclocker this board.

  8. #10068
Wasn't my choice, my friend was in control here. Otherwise the build would have had an Extreme4 and a 7950 rather a Pro3 and 660ti.

    He's an Nvidia fan.

Plus he'll only be doing light overclocking, honestly nothing the Pro3 can't handle.

EDIT - I was merely the one to make sure he didn't crash and burn in the process of building his first computer.

Just finished my rebuild with Mobo, CPU, and RAM upgrades today. I've gotta say, the difference between an i5-750 @ 2.8 GHz and this new 3570k @ 4.3 GHz is pretty staggering. Way larger upgrade than I thought it would be. Next goal is to get a modular PSU (my current cable management is a disaster) and a small SSD for Windows and WoW.

    Case: Antec Three-Hundred
    Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    CPU: Intel i5-3570k @ 4.3 GHz
Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr 3GB
RAM: 16 GB GSkill Ares DDR3-1600
    PSU: Corsair TX650w
    HDD: Samsung Spinpoint 1TB 7200rpm
    Case Fans: 2x Scythe Slipstream 120mm Case Fans (1 top-mounted exhaust, 1 side-mounted intake)
Mouse: Standard Microsoft Wired Optical Mouse (shut up, it fits my hand perfectly!)
    Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster LCD 23" Widescreen (1920x1080)
Speakers: Old Altec Lansing 5.1 Surround sound system. (it's like 12 years old at this point and still sounds amazing)
Headset: ASTRO A40 Gaming Headset w/ Mixamp (mostly for Call of Duty on Xbox, but doubles as a ventrilo headset)

Well, the performance differences would have been considerable with a 7950 instead of a 660 Ti. The money he saved on the board should have gone into the graphics card, because the 7950 treads all over the 660 Ti in games.

I don't know whether "treads all over" are the right words, unless he was specifically interested in only playing Crysis/Warhead or had a 2500x1600 monitor.

    I'd consider them neck-and-neck @1080p overall.

Yea, I wasn't referring to the 7950 as if it would have performed better. @1080p he would have had relatively the same performance while saving some money that I could have put back into the motherboard.

However it doesn't matter, the computer was physically assembled last night. My friend is very pleased overall as he's never had a true desktop of his own let alone one which he helped customize and assist in building himself. He does a ton of gaming too, which wasn't as much fun for him on a 2 year old $600 laptop.

Plus he seemed rather surprised that assembly was literally that simple. In the future, I don't think he'll need any help with physical assembly. Though requiring help to choose parts remains in question.

If you have a look on that fan i linked earlier most people reviewing it bought it for a phantom. It was tight though, and the screws i used were only just long enough. You also need to drill the holes yourself since the fan comes with the holes only partially drilled, theres a thin layer of plastic over one side.
I cant see an orange one though, only a red one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xigmatek-XLF...0334609&sr=1-3 Though the leds arent actually coloured, its just white leds that light up the coloured blades.
That said though if you temps are fine id just go with a side panel http://www.amazon.co.uk/NZXT-Phantom.../dp/B006FW0LQA there pretty cheap and look good.
I'll probably give the Xigmatek fan a try. There's no window panel selling on amazon.us QQ
Thanks for the tip! Now, time to find the long screws...

God damn it people posting your specs, post pictures! >_< I see two on this page who just post a wall of specs, but not a single pic, it can even be from a camera phone. :P

I agree though, posting specs is boring.

Sanded it down to the copper, then smoothed it. Also removed a dent.

Nah, you'd have a desktop, just missing a processor
