PSU fans normally face down. I think thats what he's talking about.

The only real cons of facing a PSU fan-side up is the risk of dropping screws, washers, allen wrenches, etc. in there or a leak in a cooling loop having a more direct path to sensitive electrical leads/components.

Pros include better sound isolation, less dust and better air circulation if your have enough positive pressure. I face my PSU fan-side up.

Hmm if my psu's fan is faced down, it keeps kicking on & off (hybrid fan mode), reversing the psu it doesn't do that much.

Yap, I hope to avoid upgrading for at least 2 years with this. Hmm that's kind of unnerving considering the cost...maybe I'll try to push it for 3+ years. Who knows :P


I guess cable management is really something people need to do once and do it well. Once the main cables are secured to where they should be, the rest of the rig can be constantly upgraded (other than PSU :P) while keeping the cables tidy.

My and your PSUs will last a while.

Facing the PSU one way or the other is fine, aside from the potential nightmare when you drop a screw into it by accident. I sincerely suggest people put a cover over the PSU temporarily when installing something.

The only problem I had with facing my AX 850 with fan up was that the 8-pin was too short. However, I already had 200m of wire and bunch of sleeve to create a new and slightly longer 8-pin cable, so that was remedied in about a half hour...

Lay the case on it's side when you're screwing anything in, that's what I do anyways. Quite simple, no need to make a problem out of something that really isn't a problem Obviously you need to adjust for your needs, like cable length, water cooling etc. I was just trying to say there is no particular right or wrong way.

Yep, less heat is getting trapped inside your PSU if you install it fan-side up. Also if you have thick carpeting, you'll have less resistance when the fan is blowing and it won't need to work as hard.

besides, you're all wrong. Front-mounted PSU-fan is the only way to go

a few hours and many removing and installing of fans later:


new case is really a joy to work is but be wary the I/O connectors are on the short side.
back is a mess since no modulair psu might change that around in the future or untill the psu dies.
in two weeks this bad boy will go full custom loop (if evga en EK finally hurry up with releasing stuff in EU )

It manages BF3 on lowest graph + 1920x1080 with around 12 people at 15-25fps so im happy
Wow at medium/high settings in bgs- 40-80fps (and FPS drops at LM when it's a big fight)

Finished my first build a few weeks ago but never got round to putting any pictures up so here goes, be nice :P and yes those front filters do need a clean (dogs + summer = hair storm)

SLI Gigabyte WF 3x 770s (currently at 1181/1833 although there's a lot more room to up the mem clock and a tad more on the core)

Corsair 600t

Also stumped up for a set of corsair's white cables and replaced all the stock fans with 2x SP120 (currently using as side intakes), 2x AF120 (1 in drive bay, 1 rear exhaust) and a 200mm Spectre PRO down front. Plus ofc I had to put some pretty white LEDs in it.

Still a couple of silly aesthetic things I need to sort out, like getting hold of a black sli bridge and tidying up the cables a bit more but im proper chuffed with how its turned out. Just need to wait till this awful summer heat passes then I'll get the side window back on and push the OCs a bit

Only thing thats missing is backplates for your GPU though.
