roots can be broken very very easily not to mention most classes have an out of rooting effects.

Did he say "with no cooldown"? Cause it looks to me like he said "it's not like mages have an aoe instant cast root." Nothing in there mentions a cooldown. He was right in what he said, and you were wrong when you said they didn't. Don't try to put words into his mouth.

So do roots if I'm not mistaken. After you have Moonfire / Insect Swarm on you, they won't hold you for long, and bad Frost Mage with poor pet control won't hold you long either if his pet casts Waterbolt.

Roots lasts no longer than 1.5ish seconds on a target with Moonfire and IS on them

at one point during the beta you could talent to make your roots AOE and glyph to make it instant cast but it never worked and they removed it before I ever saw it working.
