Suggestions for Fire mage raiding starting gear

Hi, im going to start raiding again, this time as fire. I know much about my class, rotations etc. i know a few items that i will try to get asap but what about other gear pieces?

    Head: Enginering one, no brainer
Weapon BS caster dagger (will be insane expensive i guess) + some offhand
    or Emberstone Staff heroic DM
Chest: Corsair's Overshirt from heroic DM, cookie
Shoulders: Meadow Mantle from JP vendor (1650)
Waist: Incense Infused Cumberbund from JP vendor (1650)
Wrist: Armbands of Exiled Architects, heroic DM, Vanessa
wand: Cookie's Stirring Rod - heroic DM again

thats a few items, just need some more suggestions, maybe quests, proffesions etc

i think i will go FFB>FB so mastery is wellcome

With lowish mastery thats definitely the case, there was a post somewhere on EJ stating that with high enough mastery (exact number will have to be theorycrafted ) FFB can pull ahead of FB because of the dot.

what spec does the above blue list assume?

    ---------- Post added 2010-12-01 at 07:28 PM ----------

i think the cut off is 50% mastery or sumthing like that for FFb to be more effective

LOL i am blind, the title says FIRE MAGE,

I totally agree the Preraid gears are not kind on Arc mages

Mind explaining why you think this? There's just as much haste gear as there is crit and all the other stats, imo, would be arc = fire in priority.

    ...could be wrong I guess.

With the current state of FFB glyph, FFB will never be a better choice then FB especially with our extemely low crit ratings. The FFB glyph in its current state is showing that with 3 stacks is only dealing about 3% of the total damage of FFB, when it should be 9% according to the glyph, until this is fixed it most likely will not be better then FB and the extra 5% crit.

Will we then be better of with just going haste to the closest available extra tick and then crit and scrap mastery for the start of cata?

    Most likely.... yes.
Current simcrafts show mastery being our lowest dps stat, so in most cases we would reforge our Mastery to hit > Crit to Hit > Haste to Hit > Mastery to haste > Crit to haste > Mastery to crit

    My current Pre-Raid Itemlist:

This is sheerly from the items itself... Raid Buffs (aside from King/Paw for Intellect) aren't taken into account, nor are points from spec. It's still in the works, will be finalizing it and updating the spreadsheet tomorrow likely.

Note: I was bad and forgot to reforge my only Mastery piece. /facepalm

But as it looks now, my Fireball and Pyroblasts will have ~35% chance to crit including raid buffs.

Woah as a fire mage? Gotta disagree with switching crit to haste and hit, get to hit cap with gems and reforging haste and mastery, then stack crit. Once you've stacked some crit go get yourself some more crit. After that go find a ass ton of crit and stack it on as well.

You need to hit the 12.75% haste benchmark for an extra Living Bomb tick before you stack crit. After 12.75% Crit is once again superior to Haste until you could theoretically reach 37.5%.

I can't imagine an extra LB tick being better than a better chance a free pyro though o.O
Can you link the theorycrafting site or post your numbers?

Well it's not only the extra damage from LB, it's also the reduced cast time on fireball etc. The extra tick on LB is just what makes haste better than crit at some levels.

It's been the same way on EJ since Tier 8... Fire hit's 12.75% haste first, then stacks crit until you're close to 37.5%, then hit 37.5% and stack crit some more. However with the scaling of Cata, a static 37.5% haste won't be available for a considerable amount of time.

I'll be finalizing the list including reforging and crit/haste from Intellect, Spec, and raid buffs later today.

When you factor in raidbuffs+netherwind presence, getting to 12.75% haste shouldn't be that hard.
It's the internet. You never know if people are either sarcastic or just bad.
