    Scarface 8.5/10

Watched it when I was really young, but I didn't understand wtf was going on. So I decided to watch it again last week, and I really enjoyed it. Such a manly movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8/10:
Solid Marvel movie, decent humor, overall good entertainment which you'd expect from this sort of movie. Dealing with the bad guy in the end could've been more epic imho.

    The Amazing Spiderman 2 - 6,5/10:
Nothing really wrong about this movie, but also nothing really right. They could've easily shaved 20-30 minutes off of this movie.

    In Bruges: 8/10
That was actually incredibly awesome. Soundtrack, filming, everything. There were tough emotional scenes and there were scarily tense scenes. When one of those wasn't happening, I was usually laughing my ass off. This movie was almost perfect in what it tried to do and I absolutely loved it. The characters were written brilliantly and the score was amazing. It was a very unique movie experience.
Bruges is a fucking shithole and this movie is amazing.

    Calvary (2014): 9/10

Best movie of 2014 so far, no question about it. Amazing story, backdrop, characters (that based Brendan Glesson), direction (that scenery is out of this world), soundtrack, everything is just top notch.

    A Walk Among the Tombstones - 4/10
It was incredibly slow and boring without any sort of suspense a thriller normally has. Having watched the trailer beforehand, the movie was a total letdown.

The story was Meh and whenver it tried to be funny it tried wayy to hard resulting in it not being funny at all. If you like big ass robots fighting for the heck of fighting, watch it, else, just don't

Guardians Of The Galaxy - 1/10

Plain and simple, the worst movie i ever paid for. What the hell is with the hype about that crap? Awfully played, lame characters, not one bit funny (and i laughed my ass off in the avengers). The story was boring as hell, heck even the ACTION was boring as hell.

I enjoyed all of the marvel films to date, but this was terrible...no need to see another movie with them. I hope avengers 2 will be better.

Ride Along was HBO's movie of the week, so I saw it with family. It's the one where Iced T is a cop and he's teaching his brother in law (the short comedian guy) to use a shot gun and stuff.

Uhm. It wasn't too bad. The overarching "plot" is pretty predictable. "You're not good enough for my sister. Okay let's go through some shit together. Lemme set some fake stuff up. Omg this other stuff is actually real and you think it's fake. And now I'm in trouble and you have to save me. And in the end I trust/rely on you. Well maybe I'll begrudgingly say you're an okay guy for my sister." I could have told you that just from watching the trailer. Still, the comedy is pretty solid and most of the situations flowed well and made the movie entertaining. I didn't really feel like there was a boring moment or too long of a scene that dragged on.

They even threw out a shout out to video gamers. Doesn't really affect my opinion of the movie, but my uncle asked me why I didn't have a screen setup like this one nerd who lived in like a cave with 6 screens coming from his ceiling so he could play a console FPS game, so that was a little...seemed unrealistic actually.

Touching on the comedy again since it is a comedy, I think it appeals to a wide audience. Doesn't make me die on the floor laughing. (I didn't actually perform the act of laughing at all.) But it was still funny/comical and I liked it.

I'll give it 4/10. It was pretty good.

    Silver Lining's Playbook - 7/10

Pretty good movie, more than I expected. I love the character progression, eventhough I find the ending to be a little predictable and all. Besides that, really beautiful (and simple) movie.

Just got back from Gone Girl - 9.5/10
I have no clue what I gave GotG (was my previous movie of the year), but in comparison I'd give GotG now 8.5.
Gone Girl was just amazing. #FaithInBenBat

Annabelle 6/10. Solid movie really. One con is that I hated how they just imitated James Wan's direction style. They would of had a way better movie if they just had him direct it. One pro aka best part is that fucking demon in the basement with the 666 elevator ride. Best scene in a horror movie recently for me.

Gone Girl 9/10. Huge fan of David Fincher so I rarely have cons here. That boxcutter scene was, amazingly done. Rosamund Pike is getting an Oscar nod for sure. She acted the fuck out of this character. Not gonna lie, would love to be in Nick's position in the end, cause honestly, if she was dead, and he wasn't found guilty, he'd be bunking with his sister looking for jobs that no one will hire him for as his sister looses her job since his wife basically owns the bar and would no longer be paying it off. He really is nothing without her, and that's the beauty of this fucked up couple.

    Food Matters 8-9/10

It was a decent documentary that skimmed over some obvious things that get overlooked in perception of healthcare and the drug industry. Just interesting to learn a few things I didn't know and confirming some old knowledge.

    Horns - 8/10

Surprised by the mixed to negative reviews this film has received. I loved it. Radcliffe was great and the story was just fun and dark.

Watched the new Transformers movie, Age of Extinction. I give it a legitimate 1/10.

Definitely one of the worst movies I have seen this year. I want to know what they were thinking. The whole plot was terrible. The father, daughter, and boyfriend trio dynamic was unforgiving. I didn't care about it in the first 10mins, I didn't care about 2 hours in. The whole thing felt like it was going to be a low budget porno about 4 or 5 times. Optimus Prime has officially been beaten to the brink of death 4 or 5 times and then miraculously walking in the next 10mins. Fighting was boring. Only kept watching to see dinobots who were not worth the wait.

Would have earned a 2/10 if they didn't kill the only comedy relief (I enjoyed his quips) in the first 30mins. Also 3 hours!!!

I recently watched all of Hayao Miyazaki's 11 movies for the first time, so I'll just chime in on each one of them briefly, ordered by how much I like them.

    Ponyo - 4/10
The only one of his movies I didn't really enjoy. It's cute, but that's about it, it holds nothing more of actual substance. On top of that it has some very poor lines, loose ends and a very weak climax. It's not without merits though as I do like its comfy setting, its great soundtrack (at least in the underwater sections), and I love how it takes full advantage of the water by animating it in a great way, but as an actual story I think it's pretty weak.

    Howl's Moving Castle - 6/10
It hinges solely on its great cast of characters, every main character in the movie provides something to be enjoyed, and it's only made better by the great english casting. It also has some seriously beautiful scenery. Where the movie trips big-time is with the story though, it's so extremely convoluted and there are so many plotlines, cutting half of them and focusing properly on what worked would have benefitted it a lot. I do still think it edges slightly to the positive side though.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro - 7/10
Since this is based on an already existing series it was a bit hard to get into, but that's the risk you take when you choose movies based on directors I guess. The movie itself is a very bare-bones action movie, the main character has to infiltrate a castle to save a damsel in distress, but while the story isn't original at all the characters certainly are, and once again they are what drives this movie, especially the very charismatic and charming main character. It's really just a standard enjoyable action flick in itself.

    Kiki's Delivery Service - 7/10
I initially dreaded having to watch this, but to my surprise it is actually very enjoyable. It's a nice coming of age story that really shows our main character grow, it's very personal but also very laid back and cozy. My only problem with this movie is the boy character, my god what an ass, there's being interested in flying and there's being unhealthily obsessed with it. Luckily he doesn't have that much screentime, so we're mostly left in the great company of Kiki.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky - 7/10
If Castle of Cagliostro was a bare-bones action movie then this is certainly a bare-bones adventure movie. In a sense it's basically a retelling of the story of Atlantis, but with a castle in the sky instead of a city underwater, its story is somewhat lacking in creativity. Its characters are also a bit hit-and-miss, the boy main character and the pirates are great, but the girl and the main villain are very blank. What makes this movie however is its visuals and environment, everything from the mining town to the mines themselves to the wide open fields to the floating castle itself, it all looks and feels amazing.

    Porco Rosso - 7/10
Only Miyazaki can make flying pigs believable as he proves in Porco Rosso. This movie is very slow and the story really doesn't have much going on, but once more the great characters come to the rescue. Porco himself is very interesting, there are so many things to explore about this character, and the movie really tries to fit it all in. Fio is a very energetic character that really supports Porco's 'given up on life' attitude, and heck, even the "villain" is super enjoyable. The movie also has some great dialog, and is also easily the funniest of the bunch. Like I mentioned though it really doesn't have much going on though, so I'm not going to elevate it any higher.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - 7.5/10
This is a movie that blends a lot of superb things with a few mediocre ones. Its strongest point is its main character, Nausicaä herself, she's very determined and holds firmly around what she believes is right. There are also a lot of other great aspects like its environment, the creature designs, its established mythos, and it also has a great soundtrack just from the main theme to the totally baller action soundtrack. Where it unfortunately slips is with its villains and the whole convoluted war plot between the different factions, it's hard to follow and there's little reason to care enough to follow it, its strength most definitely lies with its story between Nausicaä and the toxic jungle.

    My Neighbor Totoro - 9/10
Quite the quality leap over the last movie, My Neighbor Totoro is one of a kind and does entirely its own thing. It's probably the slowest movie I've ever watched, but somehow it manages to make that a good thing. It really is just about enjoying the daily life as a kid and experiencing its many wonders, mysteries and troubles. It sure loves breaking conventions too, despite multiple typical implications there is no slapstick humor, no parents die, no love story, it just does its own thing. The characters are also incredibly realistic, everything they say and do I can see a real person of their age and role doing. My only gripe would be its dragging climax which felt very unnecessary, that and since I'm not good with kids the little girl can get on my nerves.

    The Wind Rises - 9.5/10
If there ever was a movie with a big heart then this is it. The Wind Rises is not so much about an aviator as far as I see it but more so about life itself, because of this you don't need an interest for airplanes at all to care about it, I can personally attest to that. Our main character is very relatable and is so easy to root for as he goes through so many tough things in order to fulfill his dreams. There are also quite literally dream sequences, and they're all incredibly inspiring to watch. The story saves no punches and shows that despite how wonderful life is it can also be cruel and relentless, it takes a lot of risks and ultimately ends on a very thought-provoking note. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is that it sits still for quite some time, but that is hardly enough to hand out big criticism for given everything it does right.

    Princess Mononoke - 10/10
This one is huge, everything right from its story to its visuals to its morals, it presents itself as larger than life and I'll be damned if it doesn't make a good point. First off this is by far the most beautiful animated movie I've seen, the forest looks absolutely incredible and some of the shots it gets are breathtaking, not to mention the fantastic music. While it is beautiful though it sure as hell is violent too, arms and heads are flying all over the place, neither humans or animals are spared, it's probably the only movie here I wouldn't show to children. Its story isn't the first of its kind, but it comes to a very brave conclusion in comparison to other environmental movies, and that combined with its huge mythos and always evolving story truly makes it one of a kind. The characters are also all great, our main character Ashitaka is tough as hell while still being a very interesting person, and the wolf girl San is also great as she has to face so many conflicts. It's impossible to properly narrow down all the great things about this movie, it's simply incredible.

    Spirited Away - 10/10
Spirited Away takes everything that's great about the combination of animation and storytelling and perfects it, it does not take a single wrong step along the way. The main character, Chihiro, is phenomenal as she reacts naturally to all these weird things, she has all her ups and downs, and in the end she has grown a ton, she goes from being the weakest character to as strong as they come, the movie rests on her shoulders and she carries it far and beyond. The creativity that oozes from this movie is incredible, it'd take a lifetime for anyone to come up with everything this movie offers, some new oddity pops up almost constantly and it always leaves you guessing. There are a lot of storylines in this movie, and they all integrate very well with the main story, and they each offer subtle morals too that aren't shoved in your face. It's also almost as visually stunning as Princess Mononoke, the bathhouse itself is truly something to behold, my favorite shot is easily the one where we glance out over the endless ocean from outside Chihiro's room, it's spectacular. It also truly knows when to let the visuals speak for themselves, and when it does it's so incredibly atmospheric, it's unlike anything I've experienced. Spirited Away is a journey both for our main character and the viewer, it offers everything I love about movies and thus has rightfully so become my favorite movie of all-time.

Miyazaki has a way of making even the most unbelievable things seem real, the way he writes characters is believable, the way he animates them, and for the most part his stories are also very unique. As an aspiring animator it's beyond inspiring, I'd advise anyone who's into animation to watch at least his best movies as they offer experiences found nowhere else, even as someone who never watches anime I was absolutely astonished. This post got quite a bit longer than I intended, and I'm sorry if it bothers anyone, but it's impossible for me to sum up the movies I love the most in only a sentence or two.

Dead Snow 2: Red Vs Dead

    8 / 10

It's ridiculous as hell, a comedy/horror that skews more towards the comedy than anything, but it's same kind of goofy fun as the classic Army of Darkness. A "hero" with a cursed arm from an Alpha Zombie, four nerds, and the unluckiest "good guy" zombie in the history of cinema must team up to stop a battalion of Nazi zombies from destroying a town and completing their last command from Hitler and clearly, the best way to do this is to raise their own undead army of zombie Russians! Don't expect a masterful story here; just grab some popcorn, turn off your brain, and sit back for some good, dumb fun.

    22 Jump Street (2014): 7.5/10

Better than the first one I think, if you were expecting a good sequel, you got it. Definitely the best comedy of 2014 so far.

    Frank (2014): 7.5/10

Effortlessly funny, well written biopic that keeps you thoroughly entertained, with great performances all around, especially by Fassbender.
