    Annabelle: Creation - 6/10
I find it hard to review horror movies because I think most of them are really stupid. My wife however loved this movie as she did Lights Out. There is nothing particularly special about either of those movies except trying to get as many scares in the time frame as possible, of which they do well. I would say Annabelle: Creation is better than average and certainly more enjoyable than the first Annabelle or Conjuring 2.

Spider-man: Homecoming. It was Marvel-good, as in, had the good action movie production value you come to expect from MCU. Main character was a pretty traditional (albeit a Z-gen version) Peter Parker, but the rest of the cast were very diverse/different, up to changing the race and/or more or less personality of established characters. I didn't mind, since the world isn't the same as it was when Spider-man's origin story was created. In fact, I think it's good the creators went boldly in a new direction, especially considering this is already the third Spider-man movie franchise in last 15 years, meaning we're already familiar with two depictions of Peter Parker's high school life that didn't really deviate from the original comics. In any case, the focus is on Peter and his antics as Spider-man and how he's coming to grips with it, while still being a clueless teenager.

Main baddie is Vulture, played adequately by Michael Keaton. I was never that familiar with Vulture from the comics, but knew what he looked like (=very silly). Thankfully, the MCU version has good design and it ties naturally into the plot. Iron Man is around to guide Spider-man, but his role is more as a cameo. That's good in a sense, since he'd overpower Vulture instantaneously, but it also feels like he's kept at a distance artificially. There's another scene where Spider-man saves people, but it takes him a lot of time just because he can't fly like Iron Man. He's using an enhanced suit designed by Iron Man, so it feels silly that for all its features Spider-man has to depend on his original web-slinging to save the people in question. You're left with a feeling that Iron Man's suit is an all-purpose wonder of engineering, and Spider-man's suit is intentionally riddled with design flaws and pointless gimmicks.

The movie was mostly actions scenes, and when it wasn't it felt chaotic in other ways, which all made it slightly uncomfortable to watch. I feel Sam Raimi's style worked much better, and as did the Amazing series. What I could follow was well-made, though. I don't know how much Sony influenced MCU in the movie's design, but it definitely felt different from the rest of the franchise.

    7/10 as a movie
    8/10 as an MCU movie
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

    Masters of the Universe (1987)

Okay, part of me wants to say 10/10, because my obsession with He-Man when I was a kid... oh who am I kidding, I still haven't outgrown my love of He-Man. No seriously, He-Man is like my Jesus. Anyway...

Trying to be objective as possible, the movie has not aged well. Some 80's classics (like Ghostbusters) stand the test of time and will always remain damn good flicks. Masters of the Universe falls more in the category of "I'll watch it for them nostalgia feels."

    I rate it 4 / 10

Though the reboot is coming in 2019, and it's the most anticipated movie ever for me. Hope I don't die in the next 2 years!

    Cute little horror movie.

    Ingrid Goes West 7/10

Good performances and writing. Plaza is terrific and very funny. The direction was kinda so-so though. Maybe it was a little too shallow in it's execution as well as affectation.

    Good Time 10/10

Phenomenal. Photographed spectacularly, well written and very well acted.

The film has a great sense of verisimilitude and naturism despite being highly composed. A combination of editing and natural lighting on 35 print creates an emotional and practical stickiness to the color in the film. It's really remarkable in communicating subtext to the performances which are mostly cinema verite in direction.

A very documentary-like feel to the film. The Safdie's chose to film almost all the scenes in very tight close-up and mid-frame shots. With the climax of the film having one of only a handful of wide shots- it's goddamn thrilling.

Super engaging and intelligent personal and social commentary as well. Patinson's magnetism is a real sight to behold and performed so naturally it's lulls viewers into sympathizing with someone who is really scum of the Earth right up to the brilliant, thrilling, climax.

This is the best film I have seen this year. It got a standing ovation at the theater that lasted throughout the entire credits.

    Baywatch. 4/10
Does not take its self seriously, and a very poor attempt at comedy. Only smiles I got out of it was Dwayne Johnson's jokes about Brodys appearance and how he looked like various pop stars. Other than that it was Shit, a total crap fest of poor jokes, stupid stunts and a poor storyline. Avoid at all costs.

    6 Days 8/10
recreating the events of the 1980 Iranian siege and the Assault by the SAS, seamlessly intertwining archive video and movie footage this is easily the best re-telling of one of the SAS's finest moments. Focusing on the lead up to the assault, the negotiations, the troopers sitting round watching the snooker, or intense training it does not just focus solely on the assault.

What is even more surprising is that the lead actor "Jamie Bell" underwent training with SAS and spent time talking to one of the lead troopers who was involved in the assault.

The Movie is not perfect by any means, as it does not really build the terrorist characters up or show what the hostages where going through, but it does deliver in the build up in tension to the actual assault. If you have any interest in the event, the this is a must watch. if you looking for an action movie you can do a lot better, but this is not just about the action.

    Alien Covenant: 3/10

An unexpected level of character stupidity. A bunch of fucking idiots really. Landing on an alien planet and walking out in casual camping outfits. A pilot risking more than 2000 lives because he has never heard his girlfriend in such distress. The crew agrees with him because "we didn't go to space to be safe". Another pilot pulling out a gun and literally blowing up her own ship that she was repairing just 5 minutes ago. Unreal. They could have found a more scientifically thinking and level headed group of people to helm this trillion dollar colonization mission at the mall across the street. It should be a crime wasting $100 million on this kind of plot and writing. Characters telegraphing their death by excusing themselves from the group. I could go on.

Very cool visually though, and I liked the premise of the film, and some of the acting and casting.

Maniac (1980): 7.5 ~ 10 Not bad for a sleazy low-budge -- holy shit, is that Caroline Munro?! I had the hugest crush on her from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad as a kid! Bonus points for eliciting images of her in that outfit!

Maniac (2012): 7.5 ~ 10 Almost as sleazy. Not bad for a remake. Bonus points for some good gore and a more satisfying ending.

I liked the movie as the director managed to create a special mood though the plot seemed to be quite banal. The actors did a great job as well even though I'm not a big fan of Kevin Spacey. The OST to the movie is awesome.

Masterpiece just like the first film. Music is pretty good and well timed, really adds atmosphere to the scenes, the visuals and colour pallet is great, humour was also really well done.
My main issue was that the story was a little boring and not that gripping. I found the Pacman bit and part with the carpet getting stuck a bit cringey and not funny.

overall, could have been 9/10 if the story line was better, so i give it 7/10

    Alien: covenant

Uhhh... it was okay, not bad but not good either. The film felt very short, like not much actually happened. The story was also predictable, ever since the scene where David cuts his hair, i guessed he would switch places with the other android. The film was just a bit boring, no suspense, no engaging story, nothing.

    Atomic Blonde - 8.5/10

I'm a sucker for even half-decent spy movies - not necessarily the action kind, but the intrigue kind. Atomic Blonde has the best soundtrack on a movie this decade, it's a whos-who of the best (not the most popular!) music of the late 80's and it hits on all points. The fashion was fantastic, it really set up the cinematography and the scene-making, which was also great and perfectly built the world. Acting is all very good - I'm a big fan of Charlize Theron and she kills the part, James McAvoy sells his character well (but more on this in a second), and John Goodman is always fun to see.

It has some of the best fight scenes I've seen in years, super believable, badass but not super-soldier Jason Bourne shit. In this respect it's probably the most accurate portrayal of combat in a spy movie/scenario, and it's great to watch: very dynamic scenes, intelligent fighting, a lot of brute force and exhaustion kicking in - and the toll that takes. If you are a fan of action fight scenes, watch Atomic Blonde for no other reason than this. Charlize goes full Keanu here, she's very believable in her character and put a lot of effort into the fight choreography (and did it herself), and it shows.

So, now onto the downsides of the movie.
    1) The plot 'twists' at the end are horribly written, it's not clever, it's soap opera shit tier writing for the last like 10% of the movie: I don't know what happened there. It didn't ruin the movie for me at all - purely because the first 70-80% was so solid - but there is a noticeable decline in plot quality during the denouement.
    2) James McAvoy's character, while he does a good job of portraying the character, is not terribly well written throughout the whole movie - and he has an important role to play, so this deficiency is a bit problematic - it also contributes to the issue at the denouement.
It feels like someone wrote a really good script for the first 50%, then realized the action scenes and soundtrack were good, coasted on the first 50% of the script to keep the quality up for the third quarter, then it unraveled and nobody bothered to fix the ending because it was good enough - they came really close to making something universally appealing, and then flubbed the ending and now it likely will only have niche spy/intrigue movie appeal.

All that said, I had fun and I recommend it, it might only be a 7.5/10, and I bump it up to an 8.5/10, because it's the kind of movie I want more of - and for the most part they did it well. The closest recent relation I'd say it has is The Man From UNCLE: which is solid praise in my book.

King Arthur - 7.5/10: I went in with low expectations, and found this very entertaining. It's a GR film, no question, and at times that stylistic approach simply doesn't work with this material, but was a fun time nonetheless.

Odd that Hanes t-shirts were being made back then though.

It Comes At Night - 6/10

More controlled than I thought it'd be. Kind of disappointing tbh. I wanted to be scared. I wasn't. Not a bad movie, but I did get bored.

    Rough Night - 7/10

Fun movie. Nothing new or special but I was cracking up.

    Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 4/10

Saw it in theaters and was disappointed. I thought it was trying too hard to recapture the first film's magic. Decided to give it another go on home release...I couldn't even finish it. The flaws were glaring now and the film's forced humor was grating.

Shot Caller - 6.5/10: This was a good flick, and certainly I'd say this proves that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (ie, Jaime Lannister) has acting chops beyond some of his more well known and well paid contemporaries.

Demerits for not really showing some of the stress he went through in his decision to shun his family for their own good (or, at least, not really making it a significant aspect of the flick), and more importantly, there's no way he'd have gotten back into prison with the blade etc

    Still, worth a watch.

    It comes at night 5/10

I actually really enjoyed the movie all the way up until the final scenes. A lot of mystery and ambiguity that in the end turns out to be just that for the sake of it. No actual plan behind it all, just ambiguity for the sake of ambiguity. It reminded me of Lost the TV show.

The Layover 0/10 Actually it gets 1/10 because of Dadario tits.

Holy shit what a bad movie, not even Dadario tits can save this garbage, not even worth the wasted bandwidth on the download.

She might as well just start doing porn if all her acting roles are "look at my boobs"!

    Kate Upton is old news.

Hitman's Bodyguard on TV in living room with 300 calories of Movie Butter popcorn.. It was actually HD and it only came out like two weeks ago :O.

It's your typical comedic character pairing, with action and romance thrown in.

The plot itself is pretty predictable, but the movie isn't really stupid about it. Like, it's a stereotypical cliche movie, you know what's going to happen, but it's somehow not boring to watch.

One thing I'll say is that there are a lot of flashbacks. While that's part of what the movie is trying to charm with, it was a bit distracting.

Idk, I guess like a 1.5 or 2 out of 10. It's okay to watch but it's nothing groundbreaking or especially good.

    Wind River 8/10

Very well written and beautifully acted. I was pretty impressed with the very simple yet effective direction. This is a very good movie. It's only stumbling blocks were a couple of odd scenes that I felt were played strangely- such as Olsen's performance when she investigates the home. And a couple of plot elements that strained to get two key scenes moving along. Overall the film is deeply engrossing and effective- it's just not flashy or exceptional.

Renner is very good and the supporting cast was fabulous.

    Beach Rats 6/10

A lovely film until it felt the need to force conflict in the 2nd act. I would have been fine if this film was more of a tone poem or mood piece. However, the insistence of the plotting is both cliche, predictable and ruinous to the emotion. Feels cheap in the end.

    Leap 2/10

Terrible. Bad animation, pointless story, inane plot. Inconsistent themes.

    Tulip Fever 1/10

Also, terrible. Atrocious acting, bad writing and directed super sloppy/clumsy. Bad cinematography too.

    I Do... Until I Don't 0/10

Fucking awful. Script, acting and direction are absolute trash.

Ayyy so @RobertoCarlos (I probably spelled it incorrectly) told me I need to watch more movies, and to be honest I felt like I needed extra productivity space, so I've added my iPad to my desk so that I now have three monitors.

(There was a Boondocks stream on youtube that I just randomly clicked.)

I think now I can watch some more movies. Yayyyyy. I mean it's obviously not the same effect as watching and focusing on the movie but I can multitask :O. Gonna try to dig in to the recommendations spreadsheet now.
