That looks amazing. This game would be so much better if they'd just re-do the f*ckin models!

Would have been nice for the development team to break Tolkien's generic elf mold (am completely sick to death of noble, nature-worshipping arrow-slinging immortal pretty boys in fiction everywhere, alongside brogue ale-loving axe-toting metalsmiths with dwarves).

The original concept of Nelves as druidic yet rather primitive and savage was far more interesting.

that doesn't make sense, while i understand your desire, you have to realize that is what Elf represented.. Tolkein coins elf, so if you're using Elf as a creature they will fit that mould. In creating a world with many difrerent sentient species, each will have certain strong and definable attributes.. Elf represents the ideal, the perfected finished product..this is where we all aspire to be blah blah.. as much as some hate the ideal and the perfect, it has to have a representation. If mortals were at their ultimate best they would be like elves

Then you have variations to that.

if you want primitive and savage , yet druidic, that's fine also, create a race for it or find another one in the fantasy genre that is that and use it.

Don't dis wow for using stuff form common fantays, wow is built on that, they just take the cool stuff, and present it in a cool way. It's kinda the place where if ORcs, humans, gnomes, trolls, elves, Ettins, Ogres, Ents, etc etc were all thrown in one pool, this is hwo htey'd play out.

I'm cool with that. Elves have there place
    .

Wow or rather warcraft goes further and now delves into the Elves properly. you get to see them close up, even visually.. fantsty books often describe them as very beautiful but can never show it, and most visual representations, like films, catoons etc, tend to avoid showing you the Elves home, i think they just can't visualize something beautiful enough to be worthy of sucha description, Lotro film did, so does wow. Wow shows properly the different divsions of elves. Night, high and blood, all were once one nation, now they are essentially 3 with the possibily of four, different belifs, different points of view, , etc.. really intriguing yet they all remain or retain those core elf attributes.

They are all very beautiful, that blood elves/high elves look nicer is ismply because they are more recently done modeels, i assure you that should the old races be re-done night elves will look equally as attractive as blood/high elves. Tehy remain nature orientated/loving and in pursuit of absolute perfection, there is an excellence about all 3 groups, what ever they set their mind to do, they make sure they carry it out perfectly, unless something profound, truly profound comes along and changes their view point, and yes, they're not so up their own arses that they won't change if need arises.

Tha'ts how they are written, it's just how an Elf is, if you don't like that sorta thing, then you don't roll one. but you have a good choice in characteristic tho of elves, in warcraft you can play the goody goody perfect elves the night or the perfection seeeking darker motivated blood elves.

You may or may not get to experience high elves, who knows, but for now, if you wana play one, you'd just have to pretend the night elf you're playing is highbourne or the blood elf you're playing is a high elf in disguise as a blood elf for whatever reason makes you happy

    No, absolutely 100% wrong.

Elves, dwarves, trolls, goblins... all manner of these "fantasy creatures" stem from early European mythology, especially very old Germanic and Norse. Tolkien in no way, shape or form "made them up".

What he did do is craft a version of these which became pressed into cultures worldwide, and fantasy authors began copying his model to the extent that what he wrote is now considered "normal", regardless of the original concept of the creatures themselves.

In old English and Scandinavian folklore, the word "elf" encompassed a wide number of fairies, nypmhs and spirits - many of these were pranksters, some caused harm wherever they could and some (the Elfqueen story springs to mind) were outright nightmares.

I agree. Now, Night Elves are more "anime" than people claim Blood Elves to be.
