    "I cant spell" poll reply: Using "a lot" correctly.

    seeing the "i cant spell" pole in the general discussion made me want to share this story on one commonly misspelled word: A lot. people always say alot, but be aware, its a lot.

    I've been writing essays for a few years now and it's only been in the last year that I learn't to spell 'a lot' correctly.

    Who bloody cares? Languages are evolving constantly, and the written word evolves alongside them. "A lot" sounds like one word when pronounced. May as well write it as one.

    I don't think I'll ever understand OCD grammar hounds who insist on trying to cling to one fragile snapshot of an evolving language as if it's sacred. Shall we still be calling people out for saying "an apron" instead of "a napron"? No? Too old? How strange. It was the height of propriety once. /pipesmoke

    Alright, so that wandered a little. OT, that article's still very cute.
