Yeah I can understand that, I really disliked Donna at first, but she does have enough funny bits that you eventually like her. But I do think she was a bit more forced on us than Rose or Martha, or any of the shorter-term companions.

Billie Piper's a bit chipmunkish, that's all I think of whenever I see her face in one of those trillions of close-up face frames they shoot of her. lol :x Martha just had the nuttiest hairstyles in the world though. Was it the Lazarus Experiment where it looked like the back of her head exploded?

I watched the first episode with the new Doctor Matt Smith on the iplayer last night (or night before I forget) and he seems like he fits the role well. To me, he seems like quite a similar doctor to David Tennant.

Christopher Ecclestone is still my favourite doctor

Christopher was my favorite doctor as well , when i first saw David Tennant i said "OMG i don't like it" but then i realized that he was goooood =).
Same happen t with the new one.. they made a lot of changes , in the tardis.
The first episode was a bit boring... didn't like the actors except the Matt Smith was the only one who played well.. the rest of the cast was a bit unprofessional... and ruined the episode in my opinion. I don't know how the rest of the episodes will go on. I ll have to wait i guess =)

I just saw the Eleventh Hour and I wanted to see if there is a post about it here, and there is!!

I really like Matt Smith as the new Doctor, he is similar to Ecclestone and Tennant when it comes to portraying the Doctor. I really loved the "act now, see if it works later" quirk the Doctor has and Smith really gave me that feeling!

I cant wait for the new episodes! A chunk of land with a city floating in space with the British flag on it? Awesome! Space dogfights with Spitfires? Epic!!! Daleks! Cybermen! I'm thrilled!!!

On a side note, some of the most creepiest episodes where written by Moffat (Weeping Angels and Vashta Nerada?). This promises a lot of cool episodes!

ye i had that feeling too when i watch Matt Smith . He remind me of Tennant sometimes and really liked it. To be honest i didn't like the episode so much i don't know what ruined it. Maybe it was , don't know.... the Changes??(Tardis,Actor). :P and its only me or the rest of the cast was a bit off? and the only good actor was Matt? :S

I have to agree, most actors were... well, a tad amateurish. I had that feeling too, especially with the dude with the dog. He really seemed out of place somehow. But since DW always had some cheesy and sometimes cheap looking stuff in it, and the main cast (Smith and Gillian) worked quite well, it didn't bother me too much. The story was cool, and that's what I'll remember. I'd rather consider this to be part of the shows charm

Hmmm... The changes. Well, the new doctor is definitely not bad. Smith looks handsome enough to attract viewers of a younger age, but also charismatic enough to keep the older ones.
The T.A.R.D.I.S. hasn't changed much I think. Its still a 60's police box on the outside and the inside is still the same. i.e a control panel designed for 6 operators. (wasn't the TARDIS semi sentient?)
The only thing I don't really like is the new light color the sonic screwdriver has. I think that blue fits it better. But I guess I'll just get used to it.

Some where indeed a bit amateurish, specially the guy who played the nurse. Then again, his character seemed like an wacky, air head and if that was the intention, it worked!

I didn't notice much about the "Doctor's companion" when it came to acting. Probably because I think she looks cute and mostly because thats exactly why they are there for! To look cute when the Doctor does something cool!

I feared that reply right after I clicked "post", but was too lazy to edit it. Of course he was meant to look out of place, but I really did mean another "out of place" here . Hard to describe. I just didn't buy him being an imagery of a No 1 bad ass bad guy. The woman with the two kids later on for example was pretty good, but I really had the feeling that the man-dog actor was rather frightened by the camera.
He was just an example anyways. The nurse, grandma and dude living with granny weren't too much of an actor, too. Mr. Dog just happened to be the first where I noticed this feeling, and the first of these to be on screen.

4/10 for last night's episode from me. :-\

Only decent bit were the spitfires in space.

    Re: Doctor Who

I have to concur, although I found the planes in space to be one of the most uncool things. Mostly because they seemed to have refitted them with all the fancy Dalek tech in a matter of 2 minutes (including flying up into space, right next to the moon). (If they had them before, why didn't they use them? Easy win with these cannons.)

The episode seemed a bit too fast paced at times, and quick ideas were immediately the solution, and everybody was convinced about that. Or the way they "disarmed" the bomb... seriously... that was extreeeemely lame and... ough, I could barely get through that part.

I generally have an odd feeling with Dalek episodes. They just seem so very outdated, and the "new" design didn't change much there. I do however recognize the legacy attached to them, and can understand that a major overhaul would certainly upset most long time fans. But unlike others, this episode had quite lackluster story writing and telling on top. I hope I can overcome my fear of the angel statues, and the following two eps get better.

Doctor Who ep3 impression? Not bad.
Disarming the bomb? In hindsight? Lame!
The Dalek comeback? Hmm.... The first thing that came to me was ...rainbows? ???
Anywho, its cool. Can't wait to cower in fear for the Weeping Angels.

Ok, that was scary! Such a horrible imagination does Moffat have. Incredible!
I really like how the music gives the show its tone. Especially at the end of episode 4 when the Doctor was talking about the trap send shivers down my spine! I'm really looking forward to the second part. I really want to know how they escape and what is it that bishop/commander wants with the Weeping Angels.

Btw, why am I the only one posting here? Doctor Who is amazing!

    Re: Doctor Who

I actually enjoyed this angel episode even more than the first one they did. That is mostly because I wasn't THAT scared of them anymore . Quite a nice plot, and I too can't wait for the conclusion next week. And yeah, the episode is absolutely one of DWs peaks in visual style and score. Love the dark tone! Would be cool if they stay around that.

Most amazing shows get canceled darn early. We're lucky the Brits didn't let DW be a Firefly! Thus, let's be happy with that we at least can have our small elect circle that can talk about an ongoing good show

You are right about that. Luckily DW is the longest running sci-fi show ever. I don't think it will ever end abrupt.
Speaking of Firefly though... I heard rumors that Joss Whedon will direct the Avengers movie. Anyone want to make a new topic about it? Unless there is one already.

Thanfully the person who originally cancelled the show is no longer at the BBC, with the popularity it has currently I can see it going for a few years yet.

    Anyway, back on topic.

I've been watching this show since Doctor number 4 in the early 1970's, so far still undecided about Matt Smith.

Out of the episodes so far, the Angles was the best and sadly the Dalek's was easily the worst.

    Re: Doctor Who

why did they change the doctor who guy? i thought the last guy was really good, this new guy is way worse. i like the creativity and out therre of the show when i'm bored, but this new guy doesn't have anywhere near the personality the previous guy did.
