oh yey...more daleks, more weeping angels.....
FFs this may aswell be renamed "it was only a setback".
Its difficult to take the Daleks seriously anymore, for the ultimate evil in the whole of time and space, the Dr manages to wipe out whole empires of them before breakfast..../yawn.

Only decent character lately is Riversong. Series has really gone downhill, its just aimed at kiddies nowadays. Shame they butchered Torchwood, that was so much better than the latest Dr Who series.

On another note it's the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who on the 23rd November. I am more than willing to bet they will show the final episode of the 5 episode part of the season (mid season cliffhanger if you will) on or as close to that date as they can, which would make the first episode airing the 27th October (Prime time Saturday slot and all).
Those are just rumors, they have not cast a new Master.

It is the 49th anniversary this year, the 50th is next year. Also, it is pretty much confirmed that the first episode is airing on August 25th.

That article seems to indicate whatever is going to happen to Amy will happen before the Christmas episode.

Oh and Moffet said specifically that the episode with the Angels (and Amy's last episode) will be episode 5.

I'm mostly a Doctor Who Classic fan (Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker), but I'm pretty impressed how the new series is evolving. David Tennet is pretty awesome. The show keeps getting better. I had the fortune of briefly meeting Elizabeth Sladen at the ChicagoTARDIS convention. Seeing the episode with Elizabeth and David got me more interested in the new series.

I have to agree they have been reusing them way way to much so far. They really need to come up with a few new good main villains for this show, the weeping angels were an awful villain.
Also they need to stop going through characters so fast amy was just getting to be a really good character and they are already replacing her.

I do love how they have been exploring the doctors dark side in depth a lot through this new series.

Weeping Angels are back, awesome. I guess they are being a bit overdone. For pure terror I enjoyed the Silence as an enemy and also the shadows that lived in the library. Can't remember the name, it was when the doctor first met River
Don't know if everyone in this thread is up to date so spoilers just in case :P
I was heartbroken when Tennant left but I'm slowly warming to Smith.

Ahhh thank you! Hard name to remember. I just enjoy the scary feeling when they make an enemy that can live on Earth. When he starts going on about how they live in books and I look around my house which is a mini-library...

I did the same thing and was like, well maybe electronic books aren't such a bad thing >< Also, I think those two episodes are the best character intro in the entire series. It's pretty awesome

I enjoy that you jackals down-voted the Daleks to Second Banana on the official Who poll of top villains but you are also claiming the Angels (who won top prize) are overused.

Hell I want a Krynoid story... or hell some Venusian Karate would be great.

The show is now much more in line with the Third and Fourth Doctor era. It absolutely needed to move on from RTD and David Tennant because they had essentially written the Doctor into marriage to Rose - which would have been a cute ending to a teen drama, but Doctor Who is approaching it's 50th anniv and I am sure the BBC and most Whovians have no desire to see it end when it is going so strong.

I must say that I loved David Tennant, but I love Matt Smith even more, he's a far more...how should I put it...better "doctor" as he fits in the line of the old generation.

Sadly the episodes are mostly poorly written and the most villians are overused. I'd love to see some Venusian Karate! That was great.

As for the companions...I actually really really like Rory, he's probably the most fitting companion as we Whovians would love to be them. Thats at least my opinion

    Pretty much this.

Matt Smith makes a really great Doctor (though I still like Tennant more) but the writing in past couple of seasons has been pretty awful for the most part. Can we stop with the scary monsters in the dark all the time and go back to having fun, exciting adventures in time and space for a while?

I have maintained since the original series that there are no bad Doctors, only bad seasons.

Still, I don't like the new series. I watched the first season with Christopher Eccleston, I thought some episodes were really good (eg, the one with the gas mask kids in WWII) and others were terrible (eg, the farting aliens... what the hell?). I did really like Billie Piper and Captain Jack really grew on me. Eccleston himself was okay, I think he would've been a better Doctor if he'd been given better writing. Tennant I thought was a really good Doctor, though he overdid it a bit and a lot of the writing for him was particularly cheesy.

I stopped watching partway through his first series because apart from the often silly plots and wild swings in the quality of writing, I just couldn't take the overall level of mawkishness in the show. Every episode the violins come out and the Doctor gives a bombastic heartfelt lecture about how awesome the human race is... not to mention going on about his love life (squick, so wrong...). The original series might have been unintentionally campy due to its budget and the era of TV, but it had a relatively serious tone (possibly excluding some of the Sixth Doctor's episodes :P) and it was never outright silly.

Also, I didn't like the new Cybermen, and Daleks shouldn't be able to fly :P

I like Rory too. TBH I'm saddened more by his departure than I am by Amy's.

As for preference between the (recent) Doctors I have no favourite. I love them all equally. :3

I love Rory more than ze Doctor right now

    Rory > Matt Smith's Doctor > Amy
