some people encounter porn while browsing less problematic websites by accident. or are just too lazy to use private browsing.

sometimes, they like to remember where they left off, perhaps they liked the place. Don't say there are times you forgot a website, and were glad you had it in the browsing history. Saving the site as a bookmark doesn't keep it safe, so what would the point be to private browsing?

A valid point, although you can easily delete your browser history in what, two clicks? Or, as I do, use CCleaner to do it.

If you're too lazy to click once or twice, you deserve to have your browser history shown, quite frankly.
