[Music] I've recently become a metal head

I used to only listen to classic rock, blues and R&B but lately I've been listening to stuff like Dream Evil, Wintersun, Sonata Arctica etc.. Do you guys have any good suggestions for metal?

I bet you want some different stuff to listen to.
Here's some listening I picked from my youtube favourites:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgzFMPPH340
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KimK01YmjPY

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAfpq6EPKck (lol)

Ok, should be enough now. And remember, don't be the hateful metal head who disses dance music, be the friendly neighbourhood metal head who embraces the variety!

I'll add some more thoughts from the more "extreme" end of the spectrum of metal. These are my personal current favourites:

    Grindcore:
Napalm Death: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npa8qUNEIFY&feature=fvw - The gods of Grindcore. In my opinion no band does it better.
Pig Destroyer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_SqtCNhv44 - If Napalm Death are the gods of Grindcore then Pig Destroyer is the equivilent of the second coming of Christ. It's worth noting they have no bassist. Instead they use a noise synth and double amps.

    Thrash:
Slayer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6_zsJ8KPP0 - What Napalm Death is to Grindcore, Slayer is the same to Thrash. Gods.
Exodus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zuqZYWs8h8 - Recently I've been prefering Exodus to Slayer.

    Death:
Cannibal Corpse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjZCSHIXKcY - Again another group of legends of their genre.
Nile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ7XLcagmmU - Some of the most sick drumming you'll ever hear.

    Hybrids:
Annal nathrakh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cfskAGScbA - My favourite band at the moment. Probably the most insane stuff I've ever heared. Blackened deathcore is probably fitting as far as generes go. Pure raging insanity from the UK. Skip to 2:18. Possible the most insane main riff You'll ever hear.
Agoraphobic Nosebleed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPU0_tYFxEI - The only female vocals in a grindcore act I've ever heared and they are awsome. It's worth noting there is no drummer its a drum machine. Also the same guitarist as Pig Destroyer.

    Have fun damaging your ears.

Depends on how "heavy" you want to go - myself i listen to the Gothenburg Death metal.

Basically the early In Flames albums Lunar Strain and Subterranean, Whoracle, Clayman and Colony - the rest is great but i think the mentioned ones are better

Dark Tranquillity, all their albums are great, they havent really changed style since the first album.

and my all time favourite band - At the Gates. Slaughter of the Soul is their most reknown album. But i think the others are just as great! SOTS is more melo death than the other albums tho.

Entombed is another great band, they are also among the inventors of the Gothenburg Sound. Check out the album Serpent Saints, Morning Star and Inferno.

Dismember, yet another great DM band, check out their self titled album Dismember, Death Metal and Massive Killing Capacity.

Hope you find something you can enjoy as much as i do

I especially recommend Insomnium since it's my favorite band atm, but if you like Sonata and Wintersun it may be far off your taste. Tho Sonata is one of my favorites too Here is few great songs from Insomnium:

If you're going to check out Opeth only check out their first two albums "Orchid" and "Morningrise", two of the most well-written albums (of the prog-metal) genre ever written. Everything after that was boring and mindnumbing. Agalloch is like if Katatonia from the BraveMurderDay/Discouraged Ones eras went and mixed with some emo-y blandness...not that Agalloch doesn't have any good songs, they have 3-4. Wolves in the Throneroom is great if you're already a fan of droney and more raw production blackmetal, awesome band live.
OP, by all means do NOT listen to any of the bands off Headbangers Ball, which by your original list of a few bands you like I'm sure you already know this. Being that you really only used to listen to classic rock, blues, and r&b I assume you like metal bands that don't really scream or use deathmetal/blackmetal/grindcore vocals, and that are perhaps a bit show off-ish with their talent. Do some online research on progressive metal bands, powermetal bands, and perhaps even some of the fantasy metal bands. These three genres (while not my favs) will most likely be up your alley.

I've got a few good tracks if melodic death metal and other sub genres are ok to you

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33r3Vml9yOE : Disarmonia Mundi - Losing Ground
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHgFJEJgUrg : Bullet For My Valentine - Your Betrayal
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QXNtLaOnSE : Shinedown - Devour
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKVpLL3EJq0 : Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4jamzoRY_Y : Rise Against - ReEducation (Through Labor)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNcujmCZOW0 : Escape the Fate - The Webs We Weave

Obviously many of these bands have other good songs, but these are my favourite out of each one.. I don't know if all of this is your style, but give it a chance :P
Signature.. Am I doing this right?
