Nothing wrong with ATI graphics cards I've had a few in the past and they've all been good at their job. Rangeing from an old 9800 pro up to an X800 XT Platinum Edition. I've only recently switched to using Nvidia cards for the past 2 rigs I've built. I don't have a bad thing to say for ATI .

The new Sandy Bridge processors are much cooler running than previous generations of intel chips. Scan.co.uk (where I bought my preclocked bundle from) are offering 4.5GHz on air so I'd imagine an extra 100MHz is doable.

I know alot of people are saying the gtx 460 is the better choice, but remember that while being cheaper than other cards (ex; 6870) it is also less performant. Both are good cards for their price, the best on market right now. But one is better than the other.

The GTX 460 (1GB model, not 768MB) and 6850 a virtually tied on performance. The GTX 460 has known good overclocking potential which swings the decision for a lot of people. Better than GTX 470 performance can be had.

Hmm. I was actually swinging towards the 470>460. Because There's not a massive difference in price to be had, is it a noticeable upgrade? Or should I just stick to the on 11 Jan 2011 - Palit SONIC PLATINUM nVIDIA GTX 460 Geforce 1GB Graphics Card - Palit for £176.81 or Gigabyte GV N460OC-1GI £157.99 or the 1280MB EVGA GTX 470. I will probably be playing on a smallish screen like 20-24inch (no massive tv monitors or anything, as I've heard that can put some cards ahead of others in tests)

    Decisions.
Definitely ruled out the radeons I think, I've always proffered Nvidia.

Screen size doesn't matter at all. 1920x1080 @ 56" is the same number of pixels as 1920x1080 @ 21".

    I didn't mean size - I meant resolution :P

You can clock a GTX460 to 470 or a bit better performance. If you start with a GTX 470 you've already got a better starting point. I've had mine running at GTX480 clock speeds (Memory 3696MHz GPU 700MHz Shader 1401MHz) stable for a long time. I'm going to move up to GTX 570 clock speeds as soon as I get around to burn testing it in case I need to increase voltage (runs at GTX 480 speeds on default voltage). By the way my card is a Palit one which comes with a good heatsink and dual fan which is better than that of a reference card.

By the way, do you have a budget for this build? Just spotted "RADIUS Core i5 BUNDLE Overclocked at 4.7 Ghz (http://www.scan.co.uk/Shop/Computer-...ed-3XS-Bundles)" on Scan for £431.60 and thought you might be interested .
