To Alchemy, or not to Alchemy...

    Hey there.

I've been thinking a lot lately... You see my two proffesions are tailoring and leatherworking (My gf's rogue has been supplying me with the leather I need)
I have leatherworking for the +130 int enchant, and tailoring for the leg and cloak enchant...
    However!
I hate having an entire proffesion just for one freaking buff, and tailoring... Well ever since the "mail specialisation" thing, I haven't been wearing anything but mail, so the only reason I have tailoring, is because of two buffs (woopie -_-)
Now, I've always found alchemy interesting, and fun looking...
So my question is, would it be worth taking up alchemy intead of lw/tailoring?

If you look at it like that, you dont really have any proffession for anything other than the buff.. there are very few perks profession in general gives outside of the statbuff.
Alchemy does give you 2hr flask instead of 1hr, wich is a neat moneysaver. But other than that there is no real benefit (such as engineering/tailoring only mounts)

The best buffs you get generally from BS/JC as you have the ability to choose exactly wich stat you can get.
Alchemy is bad in that sense as you only get your buff when you have a flask/elixir active

The only cool stuff alchemy have at the moment is the mount and thats BoU, so you dont have to have alch to get it.

Don't forget that Alchemy can be quite fun, I got a x2 truegold proc from being a transmute master the other day and I got people in the guild who had up to x6 procs

But elixir/potion/transmute masteries aside, yeah, it's "just" for the improved duration (2 hours instead of 1) and the increased benefit. But in that sense, you can also tailor it to your needs. Resto? Get more intellect from your flask. Enha? Get more agility from your flask.

On top of this all, alchemy is extremely easy to level and one of the cheapest aswell. I am going to drop mining for alchemy soonish, as leveling blacksmithing past 425 is an absolute waste, unless you want to craft BoE stuff for money.

EDIT: there's also the new Alchemy trinkets coming with patch 4.0.6, so in case you don't have good 359 trinkets yet, there's another reason to pick alchemy.

There's also the alchemy specific trinket which is at very least on par with early raid gear, if you gem it right and you're not too picky with stats :P

    Never forget the trinket, folks!

My guild has now unlocked cauldrons, one alchemist can supply an entire raid team. No longer will random alchemists be supplying our raids.

Flask mastery isn't going to go away, but it's certainly going to take a hit.
