Warhammer PVP was leagues ahead of WoW's, but I'm not so sure how it is now.

wow isn't a pvp game
pvp-based mmo's of the past include ultima online, asherons call, darkfall, and other smaller ones. ultima online was the first mainstream mmo, and arguably the best pvp mmo to ever exist. back then it was the only mmo on the market, and pve carebears and pvpers were forced to play in the same environment, an environment where ALL your loot dropped on death, corpse runs were not quick and easy, there were no instances or other barriers to keep you safe, and the list goes on.
unfortunately those days are over, now all the pve guys just hide in pve games like wow. i wouldn't could on a good pvp mmo, i believe the only recent one to be released is darkfall, ive heard decent things but not great things.

Pretty much this, I wanna say LFD, but it really isnt that great with a bunch of strangers. Getting all your friends together for a game of 4 on 4 is a blast though. So Team Fortress 2 is the best for my vote. Originally Posted by MagusUnion

Good PVP in games can be tricky to find but a few have already been mentioned.
On the MMO front the best I've ever played is Guild Wars.
Other than that Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2 are both fantastic.
