Commercial Rap is everything the people have said it is, in a word I'll say terrible. There is good stuff out there but you gotta look underground for it.

Same reason as the OP. The new rap is all about drugs, money, sex, and slapping hoes. Rock/Metal is all from the heart and about life/experiences. Rock and Metal beats all.

Most of the mainstream anything has stupid repetitive lyrics. Generalizing rap music by what you hear on the radio is ignorant. As people have mentioned before Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, Diabolic, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Ill Bill, La Coka Nostra, Slaine, and many other underground rap artists are amazing. I also listen to a lot of metal as well. Darkest Hour, Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero are just a couple of bands i listen to. Basically what i am saying is you can't generalize one genre of music by a couple artists you have heard.
