    Rift Beta.. comments and screenshots

    Head start info below!

Graphics are good, engine is capable... as time goes on I suspect we'll see the designers add more and more detail, watching how they effect the game's online performance.

Questing is quite engaging... not much different that other MMOs but it's all new, all new models, animations, sounds etc. And the lore behind the questing seems well placed.

Rifts? Simply a superb idea. If you want to engage.. go for it.. if not... ride on by. Best way to describe it is PvE Battlegrounds. Everyone can join a "Public Group" and clear the waves of mobs that come forth. Everyone get's loot based on their participation and you garner special "currency" that purchases some really nice upgrades and items. They happen quite frequently... I mean.. the world truly is in danger and is attacked constantly... you can;t hang out in a zone and completely forget that a war is going on... there are signs everywhere.. and Rifts of invaders could pop up anywhere.

The crafting system is enjoyable.. it is similar to WoW for the most part... but here, when you craft several items you can then "salvage" them.. tearing them apart for some of their original mats back + some vendor trash.
The gear you can craft is as good or a little better than you get as drops for your level. You can have THREE professions Which is really nice.

There are mounts.. of varying speeds based on your level. And Epic Mounts are rockin' There are Auction Houses, Banks, vendors, factions, and Portals (instead of flight paths) to get around.

There are 4 main classes.. but then each class have many (7 each I think) subclasses. Questing earns you your first 3.. then the rest are obtained thru Rifting. Youc an mix and match any 3 you like to create a "Role" (spec) and you can purchase 3 extra roles for a total of 4.

SO say you choose mage. You can then choose Warlock, Necromancer and Pyromancer trees and then choose the talents in each tree you would like. Or choose a more utilitarian role and choose Elementalist, Archon and Dominator. You can choose ANY combination of 3 of the 7... it's all up to you! Some subspecs have pets some have CC, some have invisibility, some have healing, some have buffs and others have curses. It's awesome.. and I mean awesome how interesting and engaging they are.

I don;t know what endgame will be like.. but I will say that I happen to run FAE (a 5 man instance).. and WHOA! It was awesome. The first part was nice because it was outdoors... nothing out of the ordinary.. but interesting. THEN we went into a snowy world.. and a blizzard was going on.. if you got too far behind your party.. they were whited out.. and you could get lost. Like no instance i have see from WoW.. WAY more interesting and exciting. If they put as much effort into the raids as they do the 5 mans... they can't miss.

Bottom line is... for $50-$60 you SURELY will get your money's worth.. EVEN if you play it for a few months and leave. The initial fun and excitement of the game worth DOUBLE that and more. And if they continue to listen to the customers and keep putting the effort into this game.. it may very well become a top MMO in the marketplace.. and who knows.. perhaps THE #1 MMO.

Here are some various screenies I took... enjoy!

As far as I know if you pre-ordered your game from STEAM or another such Gaming site, they should have given you a code to put into your TRION account.
If you purchased directly through TRION (like I did) the code is automatically applied to your account.

"If you pre-ordered RIFT through a retailer and did not receive a pre-order code, please email Trion Customer Support with proof of purchase attached to the email and we will grant your account pre-order access."

Page/pic not found on all of your links.

I've been playing BETA and I enjoy it for the most part. Something new, sure, but at the end of the day it still feels too much like WoW and since I've already spent a lot of $$ and time here I doubt I'll be going anywhere else.

Thanks to Amalisa for this great Sig!

    Another...?
Active WoW player Jan 2006 - Aug 2020
    Occasional WoW Classic Andy since.
Nothing lasts forever, as they say.
But at least I can casually play Classic and remember when MMORPGs were good.

Didnt play past level 15, I dont like it , It had bugs and so , main thing why I didnt like it cause of not enough rifts and the pace was slow.

Wow... you and I could NOT have played the same game... Rifts are nearly up all the time somewhere in every zone. I havent; come across ONE bug. Though I am sure there have been and are some... they have been fixing issues very quickly...

I am level 22 (dinged after this kill)... and here is a shot of the interface up... (click for larger)

It's in beta, of course it's going to have bugs. At one point when I was playing, like 7 rifts spawned at the same time. We ran around in a huge group from rift to rift, and the ones we didn't get to very soon created footholds and started attacking towns. It was a lot of fun, certainty recommend everyone trying it.

After seeing the 2 interface SS, i must say im disappointed, really. It looks like a complete carboncopy of wow. Seriously, almost identical UI. If I would choose to play RIFT it would be to play something else than wow, not a direct copy of it. Disappointed

If anyone wants to see some gameplay of some PvP (and wants to get in any future betas), I made a video right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5-GD0_dqnw

Yeah man that stuff is a BALL. I find overall it feels a LOT like WoW.. only with all new lore, graphics, mobs, sweet new trees, just fresh and interesting. I have been SOOO bored with Cataclysm anyway... and thought I would not really get into this game.. but I was wrong.

WoW account is canceled after Feb 7 so I can take a break and play this game... after a few months, if it doesn't live up to the excitement I already get from it.. I can always go back... though... to be honest.. I REALLY don't ever want to go back to WoW.

Since this Beta session started a few days ago.. I have logged in to check the auctions.. but I can hardly force myself to do that.

Rifts will prove out to be the strongest WoW competitor yet.

Actually it looks like a carbon copy of Guild Wars. Like they're not even trying to hide it.

The game is fun, although very generic. After playing for a little while, the game is definitely better than WoW, but the things that are better are very minor, so I do not think people who invested years into their characters will drop that and play a game only slightly better.

See.. this is where I feel you are missing the point. There are many things that made WoW work really well.. including how the interface worked. Rfits uses a LOT of what made WoW good.. then added sweet features like being able to individually move, resize and adjust the various components of the interface around the screen.

Rifts gives me what I liked about WoW but with all new content, very interesting talents/trees, the Rift mechanics, really interesting Dungeons, etc...

It's funny.. I have said int eh past I wished Blizz would make the next gen MMO a whole new lore/fanatsy genre but with new engine and such.

Looks like Rifts might have done it for them.

It just looks like World of Warcraft..... Completely---

Why couldn't it have been a Robot World..its not the actually playing style I'm interesting they can all copy each other, if it works keep it. It's what we play and see I'm interested in, and the dungeons and dragon theme is getting tiresome..

    I wanna play a Wobot.......

I have to laugh at all the folks who say it is exactly like WoW. It really isn't. Many MMOs will share the same layout and feel to a certain extent. It's the nature of the beast.

Rift hit a home run with things like character customization, the soul trees (plus 4 specs!) and UI options. True, there are some things that need to be tweaked and still improved, but they are definitely listening to their beta testers (unlike some companies I have beta tested for) and are making fixes almost daily during the beta.

Me? I have already pre-ordered my collector's edition. I am not canceling my WoW account, not yet at any rate, but I will be giving Rift a serious shot.

until we see endgame content based solely off of the 5 beta events, i wouldnt drop wow for rift. Not after spending 5 years in wow building my paladin. It plays like wow.

The ui while customizable i have in wow with Bartender and a couple of mods. The built in part is nice but 5 MB of addons and i got the same thing.
very interesting talents/trees, the Rift mechanics
I don't know about what class you chose but for rogues there are ALOT of overlapping abilities that do the exact same thing and add no flavor at all. With a 5 combo Point system and abilities named slightly different, having stealth, vanish, sap, sinister strike, shadow step, shadow trance, slice and dice, a multitude of poisons ranging from increased cast time to slows to DoTs. It plays exactly like wow.

Rifts were awesome, the first 5 times. The 15th time they were boring as hell. It was 10-15 people randomly picking NpCs and spamming abilities on them. Fun for a while, boring later.

For invasions same thing but less entertaining. See above.

As far as entertaining, I guess that's a personal choice... I guess some peeps would enjoy hanging around Stormwind/Orgrimmar and bouncing around the streets, or doign the same daily for the umpteenth time.. or maybe spending hours flying over the same terrain digging for common artifacts.. or perhaps doing old dungeons over and over trying to gain rep with their own guild.

Rift, for me.. IS a lot like WoW... pretty much ALL of what I like about WoW is there... the BIG difference is that it's "all new". New lands, new lore, new mobs, new loot, new mounts, new quests.

Cataclysm was very little "new".. more like leftovers with "new" gravy drizzled over it. I consumed the content in 6 weeks.. and the last 2 of those was getting antsy.

I am engrossed in Rift... it feels more "loresy" more serious fantasy whereas WoW feels more Saturday Cartoonish... Kind of like comparing Lord of the Rings Trilogy to The Dark Crystal.

Don't get me wrong.. I am GLAD peeps still enjoy WoW... Blizz deserves the game to continue on. But myself (and a lot of others in similar boat) just can't keep playing the same game over and over without any real interesting changes. With broken balance/mechanics and new Asian Mmo-grindy features like Arch/Guild leveling.

I truly believe Rifts will peel more customers from WoW than any previous competitor.. and unlike the others that fizzled to a ghost of a following.. will see a solid and growing population.

Rift IS the NEW WoW. Simple as that.
