Anyhoo, Stephen Marley has a new one:
I love reggae. I am more passionate about orginal ska though.
Our office playlist includes Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Prince Far I, Lee Scratch Perry and Ari Up among others.

I'm a big skinhead reggae guy. I love going to Amoeba and buying one of the one and a half bazillion Trojan Reggae boxsets and being pleasantly surprised by some of the gems that are on it.
To HeyJoe, I know right? Reggae has really taken a hit in popularity these past few years. Reggae artists are pretty aware with this and are slowly starting to freak out. I think the only reggae album to hit number one in 2010 on a non-reggae chart was the Easy Star "Sgt. Pepper" album. Which was released in 2009. Which is well deserved cause it is a great album.. but it's sad that nothing this year has been released to surpass it. Then again I could be pulling that out of my ass.. I remember reading something like that but I forget the exact details.
Also.. Not too big on the Marley brothers.. I'm just.. Not. /shrug
I'll add some music to the pot:
Sugar Minott - Rough Ole Life
Black Uhuru *when Sly & Robbie were in the line-up* - Happiness
UB40 - Strange Fruit
Ok. Anybody else read what stupid shit Ali is pulling? He just announced a tour.. touring as UB40. Even though he doesn't really own the rights to the name. And is just overall being a whiny little bitch. Because he can't sell tickets solo. lol.
And don't give me crap that UB40 is bad.. Well.. Everything post-Labor of Love II and UB40 is shit.. But they had some fucking good albums before that.
Desmond Dekker (sans weird Bhangrariddim dude) - Get Up Edina
ANYWAY.
Yeh. I wanna see more reggae discussed on here
Edit: @splifone: Is that.. Is that AUTOTUNING I hear? No. No. No. No. I also kind have a beef against reggae that is purely about smoking weed. Sing about Jah, Haile Selassie, Marcus Garvey, sure. It's your religion. Mentioning ganja when singing about those other topics. Cool. Why not. Singing ONLY about weed is kinda.. boring. It's tired. That just further builds on a stereotype that all of us reggae musicians are stoners, which is an idea that people are clearly tired of thinking about. That is why I feel reggae has been on the decline in the past years.
/my 2¢
Oh yeh. I had the opportunity to see the Specials live in Los Angeles last April.. Best fucking show of my life EVER. The end. Period.
