So I just got a Rift beta key

Is this game even worth checking out? I didn't even apply for the beta so but I just got a email saying I have a beta key.

Links + everything else is legit before you ask I checked.

This is seriously getting out of hand. Theres a new RIFT thread every half hour.

Anyway, if you don't already see where I'm going with this, allow me to spell it out: the only meaningful MMORPG "endgame" -- i.e., something novel to do after the progression process is over -- is that of the sandbox.

I got into the rift beta aswell, and I'm most definetly checking it out. I've heard bad and good things about it but I like to see for myself how I like it.
Not every n00b is a bad player, but every bad player is a n00b.

Well, I recommend atleast checking it out.. but.. I didn't like it, you might though.

And you're a copy of all the other idiots saying this so, no.
You face not Malchezaar alone, but the legions he commands.

Whilst playing the last Beta event, I got to around lvl 30 (which was lvl cap during that event, the new cap is 35.) whilst very few people even got past level 20 on the server I was playing on. I would recommend giving this game a go as the 1-30 experience for me was quite entertaining. I've been playing WoW since Vanilla beta as well as a LOT of other MMOs so I feel I have quite a balanced opinion of RIFT.

A few things to point out.. I found when I hit around level 23-24, leveling with a partner was a LOT easier than it would have been to solo the leveling content. I was a tank and my partner was a rogue type character, so the combination of tank and dps worked very nicely. I do have a few friends who played caster classes and had no problem leveling alone, but that was a little before the 23-24 mark, so I couldn't say for sure if they'd have problems later on. They were doing a LOT of damage though.

Also, anyone who bashes on RIFT without playing it OR saying "it's just like WoW" should just leave really. I'll admit, RIFT is extremely similar to WoW but it does have it's own little quirks. the RIFT and invasion mechanics are rather entertaining, although if you're in a zone completely alone (like me and my partner were) an invasion is NOT welcome at all. This was of course due to a very low population since we rocketed ahead in leveling etc so is excusable since it's beta. But honestly, anyone calling RIFT bad is pretty much just calling WoW bad, because it's just WoW reskinned bar quirky mechanics and the soul system. (That being said though, i'm sick of WoW atm, so maybe i'm just looking for any alternative possible).

The decider on RIFT for me will be the endgame PvE content, because I feel that the PvP aspect of this game is going to be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to balance due to the variety of soul combinations you can utilize, and theory crafters will always find something ridiculously overpowered and abuse it to it's fullest extent.

    EDIT - Oh I forgot to mention that the quests are currently extremely repetitive, but nothing major if you've been into MMOs for a long time. It's all a case of, you go to a quest hub and pick up 4 quests, all of which can be completed in the same area.. Those 4 quests are generally as follows;

    - Kill x amount of y.

    - Gather x amount of y by killing z.

    - Pick up x amount of y from the floor.

    - Talk to x who is in the area.

Once you return all these quests, you pretty much get the same quests again but just in a different area. You'll occasionally get an escort quest of a boss-like kill quest, but for the most part the quests are VERY similar to one another. I suppose you could say that about a lot of MMOs, but with the coming of "Next-Gen" MMOs, I am sort of left expecting more from what we've seen previously.

"rift is a copy of wow so , no"

and wow is a copy of runescape so... no..

every mmo is a copy or has taken parts of other games.

No matter if it`s called wow, GW, conan or warhammer or rift.

Only difference is wow designers and rift designers don`t say "We MADE IT".. they say "we took the best of what was avalible and improved on it"

wow did it with what runescape had and made it LOTS better.. same way as rift is trying to do.. if it wirks or not remains to be seen on a large scale but so far loving the look of rift and the infinite options of class setups

I like RIFT, many will say it's just a copy of wow but I dissagree. Imo it took a lot of the good things from wow and added stuff of it's own making this game worth playing.

And wow was a copy of everquest. By the transitive property you just dissed WoW and said it's not worth playing. Math is fun!!
