Average Item Level question

I'm a Fire Mage and my average item level is 346 on the armory. No matter what I do I can not seem to compete with others in my guild for raid damage. They are always a good 3-8% ahead of me. I understand my "rotation" and class and also its RNG factor, but not coming close to them on any fight is a little disheartening. The closest one to me in Damage is a Ret pally with an Average Item Level of 350.. are these 4 points a big difference or do I just suck ass and should reroll?

Mages are highly gear dependent which makes us sorta bottom of the barrel until we get gear. Once you break 360ilvl or so you will see your numbers pop up near the top of the meters once again.
