Archeology: What Catagory is that?

I have always wondered what this catagory is

I always asumed that it was a northrend catagory as I haven't touched those sites yet but the [It's Always in the Last Place You Look] achivement shows only 9 types of artifacts. I searched the web a little but its hard to find something you don't know the name of.

If someone could save me from my ignorence that would be excelent.

I thought it was the Explorer's League logo

In Cataclysm, the Explorers' Guild will appear again in Titan-related zone of Uldum

This is possible it does look very explorer league-ish but this is their actual symbol.

its a pick and hammer rather than pick and shovel (and then more stuff).

It is generally assumed to be a placeholder for something they might add in the future (content patch? Expansion? Who knows).

I've never really looked through the game files for wow other than my interface folder, but I've seen other people who have unpacked all the image assets before - perhaps the image for that race has a name which would give us a bigger clue?

Anyone familiar with the game files might want to take a look?

Has already been done, it was something like "misc" or something. Currently at work, so can't check the specifics right now.

It looks human or archeology-meta themed. There's clearly a shovel in the icon, and a indiana jones hat.

yeah, i've also been thinking what that final archaeology symbol can mean. so far my idea's are:

1) humans
2) ogres
3) gnomes
4) goblins
5) tauren
6) ???

As someone said, it has Indiana Jones hat, a pick axe, magnifying glass, map, small bag and a shovel.
Maybe its a generic 'race' that lets you find legendary (if and when implemented) parts to your legendary quest item.

I remember reading that it was either a placemarker for archeology expansion in the future, or part of the scrapped titan idea. My guess would be on the former rather than the latter.

possibly both. we might not end up with Path of the Titans as it was conceived, but it wouldn't surprise me if Blizzard recycled some of its components (in addition to the icon).
