    Gaming Setup.

So next month I'm finally buying something new that should run WoW fairly well. It has a number of upgradable components, and I don't have enough money to put together something outrageous.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129098

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130290

    PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371007

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103846

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231190

No, I do not have the money to buy something better (Don't even look at a new CPU -_-). This is the best I could come up with. What video card would you put with all of this? Up to $150 price range. How well do you think this setup would run WoW? Keep in mind that the components not listed, I already have or am currently obtaining.

EVGA 01G-P3-1452-TR GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card is a cheap mid line card I personally would check out. It is on Newegg for $139 plus shipping.

Also, as for the case, I would get a case with a bigger fan on the side, if your hardware starts to overheat, you could start seeing drastic FPS drops here and there until your computer decides to shut off mid raid

TOTALLY agree - I have a GTX460 (but mines a 1Gb one with factory OC) And its the BESTEST card i've Ever had.

The case cooling is fine, something else is wrong if hardware is getting that hot. No need for extra noise makers.

Guess you haven't had very good cards.... :P

But yea, for that price range I'd go with 460 as well.

My GTX460 came with a core speed of 715Mhz - I can get it upto 820Mhz easily with no issues, and the stock speed on them is 675Mhz - its a epic card for OC :P

My Previous card was a Raedon 4890 with a factory overclock :P

My old 6850 OC'd from 775MHz -> 900MHz with stock cooling as well, it's kinda normal OC nowadays really.

What I love about my gtx580 + Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler is that I don't even need to OC it, and it's completely silent even under full load.

Overkill for WoW, especially on such a low end CPU. A 5770 or GTS 450 can be had for $100 or less after MIR on newegg and either of those 2 cards are good enough to cap WoW. You would be better off spending the additional $50 towards a better CPU.

    $99 5770:

    $89 GTS 450:

5770 is slightly faster out of the two, and HIS is a much better brand, so I would recommend getting that 5770 instead.
If you decide to stick with the CPU you currently have selected, good luck unlocking it to a quad core, if you do it successfully then you definitely god a very nice deal.

With ultra settings on 1680x1050, I'm having my 800MHz clocked GTX 460 bottlenecking me in Uldum while flying at certain altitudes above rivers of water (shocking ~50 fps at times.. freaking end of the world, I know). I've stopped raiding but I recall Maloriak also spiking up the GPU when entering the final phase.

So I wouldn't call GTX 460 complete overkill if screen resolution happens to be 1920x1080 or something similar. Should you find one for a bargain/mail-in rebate, I'd say it's worth it over 450/5770.

I said it was overkill for a budget CPU. There is no point in getting a fast video card if your CPU is going to bottleneck it which in this case it will. He would get better performance in WoW if he invested the extra ~$50 into a better CPU.

Well not if the cores unlock. You can definitely go for the sure thing with a 955 and get the 5770. Would be roughly the same cost without the risk.
