Quick napkin math comparing the values of the Gryphon Rider's Boots vs 359 Massacre Treads using Redcape's stat values. I got rid of Parry alltogether since it has no value and replaced it with the 55 crit you'd get from reforging. I also included a reforged value of Massacre treads with exp->crit. As you can see the 359 Massacre Treads>Gryphon Rider's in any circumstance.

    Code:
    Strength 232
    Hit rating 175
    Exp rating 134
    Crit rating 94
    Haste rating 80
    Mastery rating 99

    massacre treads
    233str 54056
    149exp 19966
    169mast 16731
    _______________
    total 90753

    massacre treads (reforged exp->crit)
    233str 54056
    90 exp 12060
    59 crit 5546
    169mast 16731
    _______________
    total 88393

    gryphon rider's boots
    253str 58696
    55 crit 5170
    159mast 15741
    _______________
    total 79607
For kicks here are values of the VP and trash boots.

    Code:
    woe breeder's boots
    233str 54056
    169crit 16224
    149haste 11920

    woe breeder's boots (reforged haste->mast)
    233str 54056
    169crit 16224
    90haste 7200
    59mast 5959

    233str 54056

    149mast 14751

    372Massacre Treads > 359Massacre Treads > Treads of Savage Beatings > Woe Breeder's Boots > Gryphon Rider's Boots

Now, you can imagine every point of that expertise is wasted on the 359 Massacre Treads even after reforging exp->crit then the value drops to 76333 (subtracting exp value altogether from total) and the Treads of Savage Beatings become better for you.

The outcome doesn't change but I wanted to point out that the stat weights used by Rly are just a little out of date. The newest stat weights are as follows:

    Weapon Speed 188250
    Weapon DPS 862

    Strength 227
    Hit rating 174
    Exp rating 134
    Crit rating 96
    Haste rating 80
    Mastery rating 101

You can find these on page 30 of the Ret Concordance thread on EJ.

    Win7(64)Pro - Intel 3770K @ 4.5GHz - 4x4GB DDR3 G Skill Ripjaws X - XFX Radeon HD 7970 - Samsung EVO 500GB SSD

Nitpicker. Now I'm going to redo them because I'm bloody OCD.

edit: I just redid the Woe Breeder's Boots as haste was the only value that jumped more than 2 points.

Yeah. The changes weren't big ones. It was only significant to point out because the value of strength fell from 232 to 227. This would make the tank boots slightly less competitive because that is their only dominant stat.

has no one told this dude that reforging the hit on that trinket to haste is bad? with all the stat weight discussion it would seem to be obvious, but no one has explicitly corrected that.

OP, Might of the Ocean gots no mastery, reforge that hit to mastery if your reforging it.

    Profits.

The tanking bracers off halfus with mastery is pretty good too

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the Dragon Bone Warhelm (http://www.wowhead.com/item=59344) is an excellent helmet substitute until T11 or Cho'gall. Better than any blue helm. Of course it'd be better for tanks, but if no tank needs it, go for it.
