Thread: HTPC Build

    HTPC Build

With the purchase of a shiny new 55" 1080p HDTV, I've been wanting to build an HTPC. Right now I'm planning on re-using parts from an older computer. Specs are as follows.

    CPU: Intel Core2Duo E4400 @ 2.0 GHz
Motherboard: Asus P5LP-LE (HP Branded)/(May be replaced with a new mobo)
Memory: 2GB Korean Generic RAM, PC2-5300, 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM
    PSU: Antec Earthwatts 500w
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=11-204-030 (Case does not support full length PCI cards)

With that said, I'm having trouble picking out an appropriate video card that fits with a low profile case and has an HDMI port. Any suggestions?
Also open to new case options.

List some details of what you're aiming for with the HTPC computer? Should it be able to run games? Have DVB tuner/recording capability? Ability to watch one channel and record another? As quiet as possible? Look good? Storage space for movies/music? Wireless/wired internet connection?

Exact specs should come after you know answers to all of those questions.

    Trolling should be.

    how about this :

http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=58...=MSI/MicroStar New Fusion APU for HTPC/Net PC
    +
    http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=56...ufacture=Antec Case+PSU Combo for Mini-ITX
    +
    http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=46...acture=G.Skill Low voltage Ram

You will need a 2.5IN HDD and a Slim Optical Drive for this case

The APU + Fan+ HDD +RAM + Optical Drive = 50 Watts MAX, so 150watts PSU is totally enough =)

Does that get him a low-profile GPU?

@OP: Are you sure that you require a low-profile GPU for that case? It looks like a normal height card, just limited in length (and even the, not by a lot). You can probably get a GTX560ti in there.

Fusion is an APU so its a GPU and CPU on the same die, the GPU is namecoded 6310 and is better than a GTS440 or 5670
And my build is truly an HTPC, what hes trying to make right now is just a cheap computer for his TV, i dont know for you, but if I had a Tower computer in my living room it would look really idiot.

But if the OP, really just want a Low profile GPU

    You should get a 5670 or 5570 or GT440

Thats the best you can get (I think ur psu has 2x6pin connector) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-072-_-Product its a Slim GTX 460
