    Spoiler tag

I did a quick search but there was no real feedback as such for this specific suggestion. It came to mind after looking at Sy's Anime thread that this forum doesn't seem to have a "spoiler" option, you may have seen it from time to time in other forums.

Basically it adds a button to the post where it's used that says "show spoiler" and when you click it it uncovers whatever text the person in question tagged, much handier than people having to recolour text white or whatever to avoid giving things away by accident.

Probably not top of the agenda but I reckon it'd get some fairly significant use

    It's under rule #4 for that sub-forum.

That being said, if you see a spoiler, report it and I'll make an edit.

As for your suggestion, it sounds good. I'll leave that to the admins.

There's a very good reason we don't use it -- it would be a pain to moderate. There's no way to restrict the tag to one forum, so picture it being used to hide flaming, porn, anything inappropriate. Having to click each spoiler tag would increase the mod workload by a ton.

The best way that I can suggest for now is adding something like [b][color=red]*** SPOILER ***[/color][/b] before the spoiler (which is potentially something that could be implemented as a bbcode, if there's demand for it).

What if you did it like other forums where it's black on black and highlighting the text shows it.

Same problem minus the porn, I guess. We'd still have to interact with all the posts on a way less time-efficient basis in order to spot people who abuse the spoiler tag to hide offenses.

Why can't you just have the spoiler tag hide stuff within it for all user groups but moderators (or whatever user groups you want)? I know vbulliten can be made to hide things based on user group (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=249182).

You know a community is bad when moderators lock a thread because "...this isnt the place to talk about it either seeing as it will get trolled..."

What I would love for a change, is to add the tags in the BBCode. It is acctually very nice, especially for hiding large images, or just spoilers in general.

That one's hiding based on the usergroup of the poster, not the usergroup of the viewer, but yeah, it might be possible. It's something we'll consider, but there are already several things our devs are trying to do for the site, so I'm not sure how high on the priority list it is.
