    Cool 3 Week Cali-Nevada Roadtrip

There's just been a "3 month roadtrip" thread for the entire US but I'd like some tips on Cali-Nevada only.

At first we were supposed to be going for 2 weeks and I made a tight schedule but now we decided to go for 3 weeks, problem is : we got too many free days now.

Why we're going : pretty much down to food, sports, bishes & Vegas

We're not into long hikes, nature, art

"Events" that are in our planning :
    - 5 days Vegas
    - Pick up a game of baseball/football/basketball
    - Venice Beach / Hollywood
    - Universal Studios but might cancel it, only interested in the studiotour not the rides, we're 26 so past that stage
    - Nature .. we'd like to skip the parks but it feels kinda obligatory so we're visiting Grand Canyon, Zion, Death Valley, Sequoia, Yosemite
    - Standup comedyshows
    - Alcatraz + Bikingtrip in SF
    - Shooting range

We also might consider dropping down to Phoenix for the Heart Attack Grill and a comedy club but it's a bit far for those 2 things, anything else worthwhile in Arizona ?

This is our roadmap : http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7483/imagemap.gif

So except for the obvious tourist places, where do you recommend for us to go, where would you like to go ?

ps: nothing crazy, keep it low budget
ps2 : I've seen enough foodtips, I know _ALL_ about it now

Meltdown Comics in LA. Jonah Ray of The Nerdist (www.nerdist.com) hosts a standup show here every Wednesday night. So if you're a fan of The Nerdist, or Chris Hardwick + friends in general, it'd totally be worth checking out.

Don't take Highway 5, it's through the valley which is hot and boring as shit. Take Highway 101 and drive by the coast all the way up north. Big Sur has tons of cool hiking places as well.

Yea seems like I linked an old image, altered it but thanks for mentioning it, it's tips like these that I need

Errr sorry I messed up there. 101 goes behind the cool stuff when you're past San Luis Obispo, you'll want to connect to Highway 1 there. Highway 1 takes you up to Monterry, and you can get back on 101 there! It's been a while since I took that road up the coast, but it's totally worth it. Around Jade Cove there's a sea cave you could check out if you'd like to dare the ice cold water, and if not there's Salmon Creek, a wicked hiking trail that has a big waterfall people like to jump off into the pool below.

Other than that, I'd suggest the North Side of the Grand Canyon rather than the South Side. North has far less people and a more beautiful view.

If you really want to see the Grand Canyon, go down into it (there are various tours that take you down there). Seeing it from the top is ok but the real beauty is down inside the bottom. If you dont have that kind of time then I'd agree with Badpaladin in going to the north side over the south side. It's also spring training for baseball atm and there are several places in the Phoenix area you can go to watch.

I suggest you stop by the California Acedemy of Sciences while in San Francisco. It's fairly new and have heard that it's pretty amazing. It's an aquarium, natural history museum, planetarium and even has an indoor rainforest with all sorts of animals. It gets pretty crowded though, so you'd probably want to go on a weekday.

You also might want to stop by the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, CA. I've never been there but have been wanting to for years. It's in the redwoods and things appear to stand in very unnatural ways. A 5 foot tall woman may appear taller than a 6 foot tall man, objects stand at seeminly impossible angles etc.

Also, the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. Again, I've never been there before but have always wanted to. It's a huge mansion that a woman continued to run construction on all day every day for nearly 38 years. The house itself is full of miles of hallways, stairways that lead to dead ends, doors that lead to holes in the floor or to the outside without a balcony, rooms with no windows, rooms within rooms, staircases that drop down a few steps then rise up again....it's very strange. It was constructed in such a way in attempt to confuse evil spirits to keep them away from Mrs. Winchester, the owner of the house.

lol The 101 goes through the Valley too.. Except it goes through Hollywood first as opposed to Los Feliz/Glendale like the 5 (assuming you are coming from Downtown).

Don't go to Universal Studios. There is NOTHING to do and it isn't worth the money. CityWalk (the big outdoor mall on the property) is kinda cool though..

The only thing the Valley has going on is if you are really big into the history of the film industry, that is where almost all the studios are (except for CBS and Paramount, really). Warner Brothers regularly holds tour, as I think NBC does. Disney is a bit more secretive of their shit and I don't think they do many tours. Also, if I were you I would go see Conan O'Brien or Jay Leno or whoever you enjoy. Also in Burbank there is the original Bob's Big Boy. Go there on a Friday night to see crazy old farts with their tricked out cars

I just wished that they didn't build a fucking shopping center thingy ontop of the old Lockheed Skunkworks factory.. Would have been awesome if they had built a museum instead because military aviation history > TARGET.

PS, Go to Six Flags or Disneyland. Disneyland doesn't have many 'exciting' rides, but it's something everyone should experience at least once in their life.
PPS, Hike to the Hollywood sign -- don't drive. It makes it more of an adventure.. Plus you'll be able to see it from a few yards away as opposed to about 1000 feet..

Definately checking this out then since I needed some filling for a 2nd day in SF, thanks.

Dropping Universal Studios then, might pick up the Warner Brothers tour instead, saves a bunch on money too. We're planning on attending a recording of Big Bang but Conan or Leno would be nice as well but just as hard to get tickets for I reckon, if not harder. Bob's Big Boy sounds like a good place to stop then, let's just hope we're passing on a friday then, we both love cars.

We're skipping the themeparks though, been to Euro Disney recently and well we just don't find any fun in it, back when I was 8 on the other hand . If it was a bit cheaper then I'd go but for a few more $ I prefer a day of ATV / Rafting

If it takes 3 weeks to get from Cali to Nevada then you need to trade in your horse for a "motorized carriage".
