    The i5-2500k Challange

    Do you think it would be possible to build a i5-2500k tower that could play WoW at a decent graphics setting, at 1280 resolution, but on a tight budget?

    Could you do it for:

    Under £500?

    Under £600?

    Under £700?

    What do you think

    1280 resolution? you mean 1080? or do you mean 1280x1024

    ram = $50
    CPU = $230
    mobo = $100
    psu = $50
    gpu = $120
    hdd = $50
    case = $30

    total = $630, dont know what that is in £'s

    I'd say the next thing to put on your budget is a new monitor. 1280x1024 is very 2002.
    Super casual.

    630.00 USD == 392.148 GBP

    Assuming I'm not confusing the Pound and Euro symbol. Again.

    In that case, yes, you could do it for under 500.

    That strikes me as cheap for a system over here... considering the CPU is £170 here alone. By your pricing $230 = £140.

    I think it might be a little more than that to build a decent quality system. It's not impossible to get one for under £500 though.

    P.S. I used to run a PC setup service. PM me if you want me to find a build for you at the best price and I will send you over the links.

    everything seems all right but 50-60 seems more legit for the case. Also a $50 power supply would make me really nervous with raidmax or ocx, should be at least 70-80 from antec or corsair.

    its pretty cheap and fairly easy to use, custom built PC that suits your needs. it comes with warranty, and you can opt to have your PC overclocked before you even get it - putting the performance even higher, this does not void the warranty if they do it for you

    Sure, if you were living in the Americas.
    The pricings are, at its cheapest, only 30% more expensive in Europe.
    In Sweden, for example, it's between 50% and 100% more expensive.
    I wouldn't be able to build such a build that you have in mind for less than 1400$.

    Why would you waste extra $$$ on an unlocked/overclockable CPU if you are getting a budget motherboard which you cannot overclock on?
    Also, GTX 460 SE is a shitty card. Either get a GTX 460 768MB or GTS 450. GTS 450 is slower but should be quite a bit cheaper, while the GTX 460 should be around the same price, maybe less than the GTX 460 SE, but it is slightly faster.

    Yeah, that's definitely true. Prices in the US are pretty much unbeatable and European prices vary from one country to another, but it is safe to say that in most European countries, you can expect to pay at least 30% more than what you see on newegg.com.

    The OP specifically asked for a K series chip but stated he was on a tight budget and that he wanted to play at 1280x1024 resolution, hence the budget motherboard, as for the GFX card, 3dGuru results say it beats the 768mb GTX 460 in almost every test, hence choosing the "shitty" card at £11 more than the 768mb card.

    OP said they had a 1280x1024 res monitor, which is why I said that the 768mb version would be faster than the SE version, in 14 out of 15 games that were tested, and these are the aggregate results:

    Why? If the monitor is big enough for him he doesn't have to spend that much on a graphics card since running at native res of a 22" monitor does require some more power

    This is a bit off-topic, but the euro sign isn't that hard to remember ...
    It's a round e with two stripes instead of one, see ?
    €uro

    But not all of them. In Sweden, we're still retaining our old currency. The Swedish Crown. o/
