Good budget but no idea in what to invest. Help please.

    Hey all,

I got a decent computer right now (nothing beastly but good), i ca nrun wow with EVERYTHING on ultra -except shadows, those are on good - at 1920/1080 on a steady 60-100 fps's.

But my gf's pc broke up and im considering in giving her my current pc and getting myself a new one.

My budget is 2000€ *or 2754.6 U.S. dollars*

Im thinking in overclocking so the machine will need to be capable of sustaining such thing.

Ive been reading about the i7 2600k and the nvidia 580.

They seem pretty good from what ive read but in all honesty im no expert at computers and hardware configuration so i require your help to get the biggest bang out of my buck/euro.

Keeping in mind ill be keeping the same monitor 24inch 1080p.

For the record i'm aiming for a machine that is capable of running EVERY game on max settings. including the upcoming battlefield 3 etc.

Basicly, a machine that will last me a few years.

Kind Regards and thanks in advance for your time!

With that budget, I would suggest you to wait for the AMD Radeon HD 6990, as it should be the fastest single card. The price should be arround $700, but with a budget of $2700 and GFX being big part of the overall price, I guess you will still have money for the other stuff you want.

yeah, im in no rush whatsoever to buy the computer, so i can afford to wait a few more months.

What about a good cpu capable of being overclocked without much hassle.

ive read about i7 2600k going up to 5ghz. would such a overclock require watercooling or a good solid aircooling can handle it aswel?

    cheers and thanks once more

Sadly I can't answer you on that one. I don't know much about it. I just saw a review of the gfx the other day

Are you building it yourself or buying it pre-built?

I wouldn't. a single GTX580 would be a better investment for high end than a 6990, as you'll need a monster of a case to fit that card. It looks like it would even be a tight fit in an HAF 932. On top of the fact that the 6990 is new, the stock cooler sucks (noisy) so you would want to research into water blocks, beefy power supply... the return for the cost just isn't there with that card imo.

hmmm thanks for the input, ill have to look into it more carefuly.

Another doubt, my budget is 2000 euros (or 2700ish usdollars if converted), but the thing is that in europe, the price remains the same, lets take as an example the nvidia 580. in the US its 500 dollars (+/-) and in europe its 500 euros :S it sucks i know.

My question is, are there any GOOD reliable american websites that export to europe?

If so, would i be able to pay a little extra to get ups/fedex whatever, to deal with the Customs, so it doesnt get "stuck" when arriving to my country (which is Portugal btw).

    Kind Regards

So essentially you're building it yourself, assembling it once you have the parts shipped is more what I meant

    CPU Intel i5 2500K $219.99
    Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth P67 $219.99
    RAM G.SKILL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 $99.99
    GPU EVGA GTX 580 $499.99
    PSU SeaSonic 750W 80 PLUS Gold $189.99
HDD Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB $89.99
CPU Cooler COOLER MASTER 212 $29.99
    Total (BEFORE DISCOUNTS): $1,339.93

That leaves you a bunch of money to get at least a 120/128GB SSD, case, quieter fans for case and cpu heatsink if you want them

i know the motherboard isn't available yet, but it will be soon

yes, since you have the money you can feel free to get a different cooler

    CPU Cooler CORSAIR H70 $104.81
    CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D14 $89.99

i both like, they perform about the same, but the noctua is huge and somtimes blocks ram slots

you can also upgrade to the CPU Intel i7 2600K $328.99 if you want as you have extra money but there won't be much performance difference between it and the i5 2500K I listed above unless you do a lot of video rendering

i do a lot of video editing for my guild etc.

and yeah ill be buying the h70 for my pc.

currently i have the h50 and the cpu rarely goes above 30 degrees Celsius. Its amazing.

in time im thinking in getting a second 580 and SLI it. think ill have heat problems, or a well ventilated case will do it?

I'm sorry for asking ALL these things but i just wanna cover all angles

    thanks for your patience

Just to finish this thread: ill be buying this setup.

But instead of the i5 ill buy the i7 since i do lots of video editing for my guild.

Luckily the motherboard is available in several stores in Portugal and its cheaper.

For the cooler ill get the h70.

And in time ill get a second Nvidia 580.

Thank you so much to everyone for the help.

    You were extremely helpful!

    Kind Regards,

Good choice with the i7, I'm not sure how much difference it makes, but I sure like seeing all of my 8 cores in use when I do my video editing.

You might want to look into a Z68 board and Lucidlogix Virtu in a couple months if you do a lot of video editing.

Honestly getting a second GTX 580 would be a waste, there will be new DX cards by the time the 580 struggles time and you might as well get one of those to handle the new effects. if you really do think you'll be getting a second 580, PSU CORSAIR 850W 80 PLUS Gold $199.99 is the PSU you will want to get now
