Thread: Nvidia or AMD?

    Nvidia or AMD?

Hello! As the title states, this post is asking for your opinions on video cards specifically for World of Warcraft. Here are my current system specs:

    ASUS P8P67
    i5 2500k OC'd 4.5ghz at 1.27V
    8 GB G. Skill 1600mhz DDR3 at 9 9 9 24
    GTX 460 1GB

    Problem lies here, I have 2 monitors; main being a 23" 1920 x 1080p with the secondary a 22" 1680 x 1050.
I used to just have the single 1680 x 1050 but just recently got the 1080p and running dual display now. Ever since doing so I have noticed a large performance loss in pretty much every game. I know this is normal and it was expected before I got the new monitor, I want to know now which single GPUs are the strongest supporters of a dual display setup.

I don't have much interest in doing any overclocking (other than flashing the 6950) or SLI/X-fire.

I know the common contenders are going to be 6950 flashed to 6970, 570, SOC 560 Ti.

I just want to know how important the 2 GB Vram on a GPU is for a dual display setup. Any tips are welcomed, thanks.

That 460 is a decent card but if you're looking for "best cards for the money" you can check out Tomshardware. Every month they have a post about which cards are the best for different money ranges. A little searching on their site and you could find it.

I'm running two displays myself currently with main being 27" 1920x1080 and the secondary one being a 19" 1440x900. I have a 3.2ghz AMD Athlon II X3 455 processor, 6bg of DDR2 ram and a POV GTX 470 myself and I have had no real problems with any games so far. Crysis 2 demo plays fine with the "normal" graphic settings and in WoW I have about 100 FPS in 5man dungeons and even in most raids its above 70. As far as I know the GTX 580 is currently the best card to go with for WoW but IMO its just overkill, just get a 470 or something with that 460 of yours and should be fine? Not sure I answered the question but meh :P

PS. Yeah definately check out Tom's Hardware, its simply brilliant for hardware comparisons and reviews.

Best upgrade in the $200 range would be a Radeon 5870. It is roughly the same performance (within 5% or so) as the more expensive 560Ti and 6950, but 6950 2GB would be the best choice since you get it for around $250 and you can flash it to a 6970. Video memory makes a difference at higher resolutions, so since you are using a dual display setup. I wouldn't consider a 560Ti a good choice for you, especially since you are willing to flash a 2GB 6950 which is the same price as a 560Ti.

^Solid way of thinking. Inclined to agree.
