If you're interested in nothing else but accurate reproduction of sound in both the microphone and the headphones you take something like the Sennheiser PC 360. On the other hand if you want faked surround for 'cool' effects in first person shooters or amplified speech frequency to make people talking sound clearer while music sounds worse you pick something like the Megalodon.
Pretty much want I want to know is if you will hear from which side the footsteps come from in FPS games. Or if Sennheiser only offers a good music/Film headset ;p.

You can make the difference between left and right with any headset. Any surround effects are faked with varying success in all headsets until you go far beyond reasonable price range. On some games the faked surround works, on some games it's worthless shit.

This is from Razer Megalodon's website, verbatim -> Hear your enemies before you see them with 7.1 channel virtual surround sound.

Only way to get real surround sound field for gaming is to use proper 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set meant for home theatres, headphones will never work anywhere nearly as good. On the other hand if you have soundcard that can do virtual surround for headphones, you can use $20 or $200 headphones with exactly same surround effects, only with varying sound quality for music and movies.
