The real reason for the Ban Wave and who it actually affected.

As many of you know, a huge ban wave just swept across and affected alot of botters. But its actually a different case. Two months ago a archeology addon to the bot was added and was available to use as a functional bot. But the difference between someone botting archeology and someone just mining is actually different in many different ways. Its much easier to catch someone who is botting archeology. So Blizzard finally went on a search and destroy on anyone who was using the archeology bot and banned them. This banwave affected no other botter except those who were using it for archeology purposes.

Long story short, people who werent effecting the economy or anyone elses gameplay were banned.
Those who still effect the economy are untouched.

And those botters got what they deserved. Any botting is bad, its like saying that catching three bigamists is pointless when murderers are still in hiding.

Wait wait, I thought I was supposed to get information on the reason for the banwave. You did not deliver.

You clearly state that it was an addon to another botting program, so what did that original botting program do? Did it affect the economy? If you have to have A to use B and A affects the economy and your banned because of B, don't you in effect ban the users of A. Also, so what? They (and your likely one of them) broke the rules, end of story.

Source for this? Or is this another "Im just going to speculate and make irrational statements stating them as facts, and there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise" thread?

No, you were still using it to your benefit, botting is against the ToU, therefore you deserve what came.

So? I haven't seen a single gold-bot in a very long time. And the people messing with your economy are players playing the auction house.
    Yay! Ponies!

    Source of this?
First of all Blizzard hates any way of allowing PROTECTED LUA codes. That's why Blizzard targeted Archaeology botters.

The website for the bot has openly stated it, and why it was the case. Apparently the bot has to put some message into chat for it to do the arch thing. I'm not sure why, but basically that make it easier to catch. The bot can also do gathering, and maybe pvp. Since those do not put messages into chat, they were unaffected. I don't really want to say the name of the bot, but it has been mentioned if you look in similar threads.

The bots these days will do anything pretty much, fish, mine, herb, arch, bg. For whatever reason everyone except people who used it to arch were left alone. Arch is the only one that doesn't affect other peoples game play, but they were the ones penalized for it. Chances are they were also using the bot to do some of the other stuff too though.

If you post the actual name of the program, or any details about it, your post gets deleted (or thread if you're the OP).

If you've been reading MMO-Champ today though (and keep reading it) you'll probably see more people attempt to talk about it before their posts are deleted.

I can vouch for the accuracy of the OP though (although I agree that any botting is bad). It was originally a PvP bot that was also used for gathering, and then eventually Arch.

Yea... So botting is okay? No... it's against the EULA...

Also, you can make thousands upon thousand of gold doing arch, and yet you claim that doesn't affect the economy...

Items now vendor for 1g-few hundred gold, I received 3x 200g pieces in a row.

Don't bot, you won't get banned, it's that simple.

People asking for source, are silly. This "banwave" kids are talking about... was JUST for archeology... and the reason for this is how obvious and flawed the bot was, compared to their other bot services (mining, BG, and fish bot). This bot would literally speed hack, from dig site to dig site... and join a random chat channel ( /join 1o1ub54b ) and spam that channel with commands and lines of text. TBH I've used this to grind honor since season 5 (that's the release of WoTLK), but as soon as I heard about this... I knew it would be banned shortly. People just need to understand how things work. (If you use the BG botting aspect of it, it is still impossible to detect, other than other ACTUAL players reporting you.)

If you were using a bot, you were cheating the game, and you deserve your ban.

Someone seems a bit ass-hurt to me.

Archaeology botting does not, did not and will not affect you. Why care?

The speed hack did not come standard. It was optional, nice of you to think you knew what you were talking about though
