really? i didnt even know there was a ban wave.and even still..botting for arch is kinda dumb who would bot that?

"There is no valid reason to use a bot" There actually is a lot of "valid" reasons to use a bot, but its not allowed by the game. If I was in some high end raid guild I'd consider buying gold even, just so I never had to log in during non-raid times.

    vial of sands - economy
obtaining pretty damn good i359's while putting in no work and then using them in pvp/pve affecting others.

YEah any botting is bad so theres no discussion.

Actuall he did know what he was talking about which is more than anyone can say for you. He knew about that random chat channel and that the bot spammed stuff to it. He admitted to using them for honor grinding. He knew the bot was too obvious and people would get banned.

All you did was troll someone for implying that the speed hack was turned on by default. Which he didnt even say he only implied it.

Youre so COOL! can I be your friend?!?!?!

    Botting is bad mmm'kay?

I don't believe in botting at all no matter what the supposed justification of their usage is. If you bot you should be banned, I think most in this thread agree on that.

The op does raise some interesting implications though. Blizz made the ban wave very public yet it is implied this was an archaeology bot with flaws which made it easy to detect. Anyone botting herbs etc using different programs were unaffected. This raises the question (if this is all true ofc) can Blizzard not detect the other programs at all, or do they detect them yet turn a blind eye which has also been implied in this discussion?

Could anyone provide a link to any source material were a proper investigation into botting in mmo's had been carried out by a reliable 'journalist' so as to assess this properly?

And those botters got what they deserved. Any botting is bad, its like saying that catching three bigamists is pointless when murderers are still in hiding.
Grammar Nazi'ing is not something we like here.

@ OP: Can you link us a source? And you don't see mine botters as often because they might wallhack beneath the ground.

Yes people were banned for using the archeology bot and it seems safe to use the bot for other things then arch.

By making it a public statment that they've had a ban wave is to scare people botting or thinking about botting, If they ban 10.000 accounts im sure 30.000 will stop botting or read about it and never start using the bot in the first place, the actuall bans isn't everything

Hahaha, all this thread has done is make me want to experiment with botting.

I've never botted and I do think it's quite annoying and I do report botters, but there have been some interesting posts in this thread. I only have one account and I would be really upset if it got perma-banned so i'm not actually going to bot at all, but it is tempting to me just out of curiosity.

To those that are upset they got banned, well, you did the crime and you got caught so you have to deal with the punishment. That is how life works.

Botting is illigal. And shoulden't be done.. But when that is said. if we had no botters. The price on Flasks and Herbs and such. Would be alot higer than they are today. And for thoes of you who buys gold. If botters dident bot. your gold price would go from about 2$ to 10-15$ per 1k gold.
i think blizzard can deteckt every singel bot out there. But i dont think they wantet to. i mean. Many botters that sells gold have 3 accounts going each day. And thats more money into Blizzards pocket.

    Just my 3 cents

well Tom, since they levied a tax on all recordable cd's and dvd's in my country, that= rights of usage, therefore, for all legal purposes, I already paid for the shit I downloaded, thus it IS NOT STEALING, so that's a crap analogy...

OT: hahhaa! suck it up botters, your card got pulled, punched, and thrown in the trash.
After knowing my GM was botting for the last year or so, I wonder if I will log on and find him gone?
I wouldn't turn him in, but it bothered me, not b/c he was getting ahead, but b/c I want to play with ppl, not some shithole program.
