Elixer of the master in heroic dungeons

As an alchemist, if I pop an elixir of the master in a daily heroic dungeon, and if i leave or finish that dungeon the buff gets wiped. Even if its far before the 2 hour timer for elixirs. I cant imagine that this is intended. So the elixir buff basically gets wasted.
