I think it is just national pride. If you can't support the Habs and you're all out of stuff to set on fire in the streets, might as well start supporting the last Canadian team left which is fortunately the one with which your rivalry is probably the weakest.

In other news, it sounds like you Canadians are getting closer to getting back another franchise. True North is apparently in negotiations to buy and relocate the Thrashers. You guys can start rooting again for the great Canadian heroes Evander Kane and Andrew Ladd! Can't wait til this business is over so either Columbus or Detroit can be relocated to the East. If it is Detroit /happyday. If it is Columbus we will finally get Minnesota back in the Central where it belongs. And then the Red Wings will get to play exactly ZERO Western Conference road games in their own time zone. I love watching games at late hours at night! /sarcasm
