I like the Canucks because they are a competitive team, but I am still a blue and white bleeder unfortunately. Do I envy Canucks fans? A little bit, but look how long it took for Vancouver to get to this point where they are probably going to win the Cup. 40 years of history and only a couple of years where the Canucks made any considerable impact in the post season, this is the first year where they might win it all and I think it's been earned. Like Vancouver, I think Toronto's time has come for them to make some noise and I saw enough evidence of it this season that they are a contender for the post season if they were to work hard all year instead of making the late playoff push.
Vancouver as a franchise is one of the most talented and well managed teams in the league right now, but you can thank Brian Burke for building up some of that team as well. If the Canucks win it all then it's two teams that Burke has been a part of and has brought in players to build a franchise that have won it all. You look at the teams that have all made the post season multiple times in a row and you will see which ones are going to be the dynasties in the coming years. Vancouver doesn't have a lot of time left to win the Cup before Luongo becomes an issue health wise and right now he is probably at the top of his game. I think it would be awesome for Vancouver to bring the Cup back to it's home land by a team that has finally put it all together.
Most honest Leafs fans especially will tell you that they would rather cheer for the Canucks over Montreal or Ottawa though. Funny because Ottawa sucks so badly you might as well wear a paper bag over your head if you admit to being a Senators fan and Habs fans go ape shit and blow stuff up when their team loses, hockey is serious business in Montreal I guess. I am not a bandwagon fan, but I will happily support Vancouver in winning the Cup this year, but I am still a Leafs fan at heart.
For the record, Toronto has one of the youngest teams in the NHL and clearly as this post season showed us, the number one and two seeds in the East were both eliminated early on against lower seed teams. Ottawa on the other hand was the ageing cougar and they had the likes of Kovalev and Alfredsson (who both should retire to be honest) and Kovalev got traded to a way better team for a pittance and wound up being one of their better players after the trade deadline.
This is the last thing i'm gonna post in this thread, cause obviously if I say anything about the sharks it's just going to turn into a flamefest with the assholes in this thread.
It's only 2 games in. San Jose gave up in the third. Eager was trying to give the Sharks some energy. Marleau dropped his gloves for the first time in 2007 to try to amp up his team. We're playing too desperately and not executing plays. Either way, San Jose had a 3-0 series lead in Detroit only to lose the next three and barely scrape a win in game 7. We're gonna be on home ice Friday and the momentum can be extremely different. The series is far from over though so anyone dismissing the sharks this early must not realize it's best of 7, not 3.
And that's all. Continue with your pointless flaming in this thread, I actually hope it gets locked.

Ya Ren Toronto certainly appeared to have things to look forward to if the last half of the season is any indication. Reimer looked freaking great when he became the starter. The Monster has been a disappointment so far with as much hype as he had although I still think he will end up being a solid NHL goalie. Grabovski is going to be a very good player and with Kulemin, MacArthur, and Bozak getting more experience and getting better each year it is certainly realistic that Toronto can make the playoffs even if they are a step or two from being a Cup competitor.
Not to mention that the Leafs have a ton of cap room to work with. Bozak certainly won't be making the nearly $4mil he made this season when they potentially resign him as he is an RFA. They get that awful, awful Giggy contract off the books, although some of that will certainly some of that will go to Reimer, which will free up $4-5 million. They have money, they have budding talent, and they have upper tier stars. If they can lure in some good FAs and with Lupul being on the team for a full season they could be very good next season. Or they could disintegrate like a dead leaf. Either way, every seat in that stadium will be full for every game next year lol.

Ugh krejci please don't be hurt.
Sounds like they called an elbow....I still don't expect a penalty.

Apparently the NHL changed the rule regarding elbowing penalties to include hits made with the shoulder.
When did this happen?
Pretty much when the NHL decided to start emphasizing elbowing and boarding to cut down on headshots. Now the refs call anything that they think is remotely close even if the elbow is tight to the body. I missed the call you are referring to, but I imagine it was just like the other dozen or so they have blown in the playoffs.

Basically, Marc-Andre Bergeron came off the bench and skated right for Krejci, who never saw him coming. Bergeron attempted to stop, but Krejci's moment caused the collision. Bergeron's arm was tight against his body and the brunt of the impact was on his upper-arm/shoulder, but his arm swung out after the collision (to stabilize himself), which I guess caused it to look like he drove through Krejci with an elbow.
Guy Boucher was absolutely livid at the call and for good reason. The announcers criticized the call and then the talking heads blasted it as a piss-poor call during the intermission, as well.
Aww muffin. I'd be happy to see him win it. He is a great player but has struggled this year I think since he hasn't been as productive numbers wise and his defensive game is not the best. But he does what he does best and that's being the setup guy which he did on Tuesday rather well. I could have told you that his performance the last couple of years has not been stellar and he was on the decline, if Boston won the Cup then I would think his career as certainly one of the better offensive D men would be complete.
according to sportsnet, the trashers have been sold to the true north group in Winnipeg

I'm sure both Thrashers fans are devastated.
if this does go through, i wonder who will be relocated to the east.. i know detroit would like to, so they won't have to star their games during cst.. but that would kill the chi vs det rivalry.. im thinking columbus
