Good ping, terrible Latency

So I've just finished a very horrible raiding session where I was dc'ing at least once per boss attempt. My latency was likewise consistently terrible throughout, usually around 500ms but also at times reached 1000+. This is particuarly confusing because when I use the command prompt to ping bbc.co.uk I am told my ping is 30-40 ms so could I have some suggestions of what may be the problem or tell me how I can give more useful information that would help to analyse the issue?

Well that's the thing, bbc.co.uk isn't in the same place as the WoW servers. So checking your ping there doesn't mean much. There could be a routing issue between you and the servers causing the issue.

Ping the blizzard servers and not the bbc :P
