In my opinion it's insulting to truly gifted/talented musicians when they are placed behind a group of extremely commercially successful sellouts like Metallica.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Metallica fan, but greatest musicians? Give me a break. They're average musicians with above average marketability. Nothing more.

It's really hard to tell, seeing how the classical composers contributed to music so much. But there are so many great bands and artists that existed in the 20th century. So I guess I'm gonna have to divide it up.
Classical: I'm gonna have to say Bach.
Modern Classical: Igor Stravinsky (spelling?), barely beat out John Williams
Modern Popular: A tough one, but I'm gonna have to say Led Zeppelin, seeing how they took what everyone before them made, and made it kickass. Music as you now it wouldn't exist without Led Zeppelin.
