    Graphics card?

    Hi there,

I'm building a new desktop pc to replace my gaming laptop and I have decided I'm probably going to go along with most of the options on the MMO-Champ Unicorn build:

Case: Cooler Master HAF932 (It looked at quick glance that this had more cooling than the HAF X or am I being an idiot and missing something?)
    PSU: Corsair 750HX
    CPU: Intel i7-2600k
    Cooler: Noctua 6 NH-D14
    Mobo: ASUS SABERTOOTH P67
    RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 12800
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black
    Boot/WoW SSD: Corsair Force 120GB
    Optical drive: Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW

I've been looking at different graphics cards and I'm not sure which to go for? I'll be mainly playing WoW for the foreseeable future (but would prefere to have some redundancy there if I switch to something else) running 1920x1080 resolution and hopefully as close to ultra as possible (if not ultra). If it makes a difference I mostly raid 10 man but sometimes 25's are organised so would have to cope with those aoes.

Now in the sunny UK (it actually is today as well!!!) a EVGA GTX 570SC will set me back £285, a EVGA GTX580SC £395 and a GTX590 of any form is horrendously expensive lol. I was wondering if the 580 is worth the extra 100 pound in performance and future proofing or is the 570 the better option? I suppose if I went for the 570 and if there was space on the mobo I could consider getting another in the future to setup a SLI if graphics requirements went up?

Also please point out if anything is unnecessary or would be better in the build above too

    Thanks

Any 6950 1gb or 2 gb.If you want physX Cuda etc and Nvidia, 560 ti will be enough for you.

A GTX 570 will be more than enough to run any game maxed out at that resolution. I don't think that the 580 would be worth the extra investment, especially since the new lineup of graphics cards should be coming out later this year.

The GTX 580 is a trophy piece of hardware, worthy every penny, assuming your means can justify it. Unless you get into surround gaming you won't need it. Depending on prices check out:
    Nvidia GTX 560, GTX 570
    AMD 6950, 6970

Any of those options will be more than enough for WoW and any future Blizzard products. Blizzard will never push the graphics in any of their products that you'll need a SLI/Crossfire setup.

I would suggest the GTX570, I thought about buying the 580 aswell but it's not worth the money difference if you're just buying a Normal High-end comp.
    Playing since 2007.

    I have a GTX470 and i run Crysis 2 on medium with 50-60FPS. Or highest with 35-40FPS.
Your greed, your foolishness has brought you to this end.

Thanks for the prompt response I'll prob go with the 570 then as I don't think I'm likely to be looking into 3D glasses in the near future (they'd probably destroy my eyes with the amount I play wow - My in-laws has one of the new Samsung 3D tvs and it can be tiring after a bit!)

So is there any point going for the HAF-X above the 932 or in my case or is it only worth it if you like a green tower XD

Is there any point in these Killer network cards? I have seen written in some places that they aren't worth it but not sure?

Different avatar from most Samskeyti - Sigur Ros fan I presume?

It's all relative to what kind of money you're ready to invest. If you have a spare coin, get HAF-X - won't regret. But in both cases, they will equally fulfill your needs.

The Killer network cards are garbage. They need to hurry up and make 3D monitors that are glasses free.

I'd say you're looking more in the 570 range, there's no need for a 580=<

Thought i'd break up the Nvidia stuff up a bit and say that I just got a Power Color 6970 PCS+ and it runs everything that i play at max @ 1080p resolution, and the rest of my system is kind of pants (E8500, 4GB 800mhz ram) compared to the newer tech out.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/H...HD_6970/7.html - For comparisons in some games, yes WoW isn't there but meh, can't do much about it. Overall they 570 and the 6970 are fairly equal, comes down to your preference of amd/nvidia i suppose.

Regarding the case: HAF X versus HAF 932 (Your pick)

    HAF X:
Cooling System Front: 230*30 mm red LED
    Top: 200*30 mm fan *2
    Side: 200*30 mm fan
    Rear: 140*25 mm fan
VGA duct: 120*25 or 120*38 mm fan
    VGA holder: 802*15 mm fan

    HAF 932
    Front : 230x30mm Red LED fan x 1, 700 R.P.M, 19 dBA
    Side: 230x30mm standard fan x 1, 700rpm, 19dBA (will support 4x 120mm fans)
    Top: 230x30mm standard fan x 1, 700 R.P.M, 19dBA (will support 3x 120mm fans or 120mm x 1 + 230mmx30mm x 1)
    Rear: 140x25mm standard fan x 1, 1200 R.P.M, 17dBA

I hope that your HDD is the SATA-3 64mb cache version.
    Computer: Intel I7-3770k @ 4.5GHz | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM | AMD 7970 GHz @ 1200/1600 | ASUS Z77-V PRO Mobo|

    Not completely true.
Metro 2033 is a killer, even a GTX580 wont give you average 60 fps @ 1920x1080, probably not even 50
    So one game

I do agree that spending so much for a GTX580 for a couple games that need it is not worth it.

For some GTX 580 is a future proof investment. I won't be wrong if I say that not everyone wants to purchase a new GPU every year.

no game you play needs it, newer games that use dx11 and push it to the max definitely need it and possibly more than one of them
