    bear & ragestarv

Hi! i recently hitted 85 on my feral tank and starting to do some normals. allthough im very experienced from the past with feral tanking i can't help to wonder something isn't going as it should.
So far i've only tanked normals in cata with my druid( main is prot paladin so know all encounters and such).

anyhow. 90% of all boss fights and most of the trash pulls, yes even 5+ mobs i keep ragestarving and got no reason to figure out WHY i am. doing the right rotation as the Bearguide says,

heres an armory if it helps! http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...misscat/simple

    many thanks, kitty

Kitty, do you have maul macroed to your other abilities, or using maul on CD? It's possible you're starving yourself by trying to hit maul too much.

they are not macroed since end of icc. since tps wasnt an issue and now rage is. so no they are not. im using it on every cd tho but mainly cuz i feel my tps is quite low

even in 5 mans, you can't expect to use maul on CD and have a ton of rage. Unfortunately, on Live, our AOE dps is low compared to other tanks. you're going to have to stick it out till 4.1 and our AOE improves. remember to tab and lacerate, mangle, etc. When you up to 40 or 50 rage, you can try out maul. It also would help to mark your targets so you can hold threat on one and build up threat (and rage) from the other targets.

    It's a two-fold answer.

With rage normalized, it's very rough getting the rage you need. With how bears are designed, it's very hard to have enough rage to pump out any and every ability on demand. If you want to go so far as to compare our abilities against warriors (our closest tank kin), their abilities cost less rage across the board, they passively can generate rage better, and their AoE threat is stronger and more refined than druids.

Keeping in mind what I've stated above, Maul is definitely not what it used to be. Mangle is our hard-hitter, with Maul a very distant second. The reason why many people suggest tab-Lacerate is because Mangle is so much more effective with generating threat than Maul, and proc'ing free Mangles is your best option for keeping up in AoE threat right now (or even single-target threat). The unfortunate part with Maul is that it's the only true cleave-type ability we have, but it feels very underwhelming if you've played any other tank class with a cleave ability (or one with an AoE ability that blows Thrash/Swipe out of the water). Hopefully, 4.1 will finally put us back to where we'd like to be in terms of AoE threat, however I'm still waiting for our rage issues to be addressed.
