    It's supposed to be a lot better. As people said, the first trailer was a great one for The Secret World (which is now Buy to Play by the way).

    Edit - Here it is...

    So that trailer is actually a Guild Wars 2 commercial. Despite the limited focus on any individual screen, I kind of like what it's reaching for. Much, much better than that Live-Action ad for The Secret World they were running.

    So, does anyone have any tips or tricks for getting the better dyes? Prices in the TP are just stupid, 20g for Abyss ain't happening. I was going to try my luck with the rare unidentified grey dyes, but I heard that you're not even guaranteed a rare quality dye that way. Next I was thinking about the mystic forge and trying my luck with 4x, but what's the chance the resulting dye will be of higher quality than what I use?

    Also, are you not even guaranteed 2 rare dyes with the gem store dye pack? It's almost 5g for 200 gems now, so that doesn't seem like a great deal if it's not. :\

    The "cheapest" is still using unidentified dies, one abyss will get you 182unid dyes. This isn't as much as it used to be with the 2s unids but it's probably still the cheapest.
    MF isn't worth it if you buy "cheap" dyes, you often get same quality dyes. Ofcourse if you combine unid+mf your return goes up a bit (if you sell the more expensive dyes anyway) but this requires a lot of effort/trouble for marginal gains.

    So if you take time/trouble into account the real cheapest is just buying the dye off tp.

    I... don't... understand...

    There is this great (so much fun) Snowball-Minigame in there now - it get's removed after the holidays.
    There was this fun DOTA-style minigame in at Halloween - it got removed after the holidays.
    (and so on)

    and now we only have one (?) constant minigame in the game: Keg Brawl. It's fun. But why is it so alone?

    Started a new ranger. I'd like to have it more of a melee emphasis.

    As an aside, I find it ironic that even though I don't like mmos that much that all I'm playing right now are mmos (GW2, DCUO, and Vindictus).

    Because spellcasters with staves and Warriors being the only heavy weapon melee wielders is a little bland? Rangers/Hunters (depending on the game) being so heavily, or in a lot of cases exclusively ranged isn't doing anyone any favors when the game was advertising to stretch out the professions a bit. Warriors using Longbows and Rifles. Elementalists (which I'm freaking terrible at) with double daggers play like nothing I've seen before, and Mesmers with Swords have a very cool and solid feel to them.

    While I can't speak for how Necro melee compares to the other Scholar professions, I can say that trying to melee Ranger felt like it was missing something. Not sure what, but something.

    Well there are only two options if you want to be melee as a ranger, Greatsword and one handed sword. Greatsword is pretty good but I don't like the aesthetics of it. I'm trying to stick with the one handed sword (with dagger offhand) but I hate the 1 skill for the sword.

    I wish I had the same options as my GW1 ranger. I used a scythe and dagger ranger quite a bit, was a lot of fun. Not quite feeling it here though.

    A viable melee weapon is what Rangers are missing. I can go on (another) rant and explain in detail why you cripple yourself as a ranger if you use melee weapons. If anyone cares about the explanation I'll gladly write it out though
    (sorry for only partially quoting your sentence)

    Anyone else splurge on mini quaggon?

    I'm happy I got him but it would be nice if he did something :/ like talk!~

    The GS isn't all that good, to demonstrate this I'll compare it to other classes who can use it.
    War => great dmg+vuln+might and 2gap closers + cripple
    Gua => great dmg + reta +blind +2gap closers + cripple
    Mes => great dmg + might +vuln + gap creater (which you want)
    Ran => mediocre dmg + bleed + block=gap creater(which you don't want/criple (you must choose which one) + stun

    As you can see all other classes basically focus on dealing direct dmg and how to improve that and maximise uptime.
    The ranger however is a jack of all trades with conflicting skills some examples: Swoop (our "best" dmg skill) requires us to give up our gap closer, Blocking kicks people away while as a melee toon you want to stay close(you probably just want to block that 1 attack) ok you just blocked and kicked the foe away now he runs and u can't cripple him, you can use swoop but as I just said you probably used it to dmg already.

    Maul is nice the only issue is that most of it's dmg comes from the bleed which you can't stack with the greatsword, it's also only a 5% increase in dps (gets worse the more power/crit you have) vs autoattacking (if you don't count that every third hit does more dmg).

    I can do an analysis of the sword/x aswell but it's even more grim

    I kept thinking maybe I was missing something with GS since I've seen quite a few rangers running around with one. It just didn't seem that great (har har :P) when I used it.

  14. #29454
    Yeah, I understand that the melee weapons are underpar for a Ranger. It doesn't matter though, I'm still using them.

  15. #29455
    It's one of the things I hate about seeing "fellow" rangers when in pugs. It seems like you do decent dmg but the moment you start to think about it and compare it to other classes you realise how bad it really is.
    The worst about this is that this counts for all weapons apart from 2 the axe and the shortbow.

    I don't mind people playing the way they find it "fun" but if you get in a pug with 4 of those people you're in for a ride. I also don't get why you'd be so stuborn as to say "I want to use this weapon on this class just cause I can!" I get the difference between Gua/War/Ran utility wise (or to what they bring to the table) but IMO you only need to choose between War/Gua since the Ranger only differentiates itself by having a companion (which is unreliable) and if having a companion swayed your choice towards ranger you might aswell grab a weapon that is "good".

    edit: I'm merely trying to state that I don't get peoples motivation. As I posted earlier Why? do you want to use the melee weapons so much? And if you really like the melee weapons what convinced you that Ranger would be the "best" class for this?
    I don't mean to insult anyone (especially not you Doozerjun)

    GS for Rangers is a defensive Weapon, it's not supposed to outdamage other professions. No one talks about the evade, I love it and because of this I love GS on my Ranger.

    You mean the evade on the autoattack? The one where you have to cripple all your dps inorder for it to be controlable, that one?
    If i'm getting this right you're saying you like the melee nature of the weapon even though it's defensive, then what are you doing in melee to begin with? If you want a defensive weapon get a longbow, trait for max range and go shoot at people from the otherside of the world.

    An alternate way of looking at it (I hope you mean it this way tbh) is that you opt for a GS Ranger over a GS War/Guard since you like to specialise on being in melee doing "decent" dmg and still being able to survive thanks to the evade (and block).
    The issue with this line of thinking is that a guardian can do this aswell and while doing this also gives extra survivability to your team. Also the guardian does more dmg. To go even further in any decent team you don't need the evade, you have dodges/blind/aegis/protection to help you, this is why one of the most succesful dungeon teams is 2war,2guard,1mes.

    EDIT: this post came across a lot more hostile than intended, my apologies. I know you're simply answering my "why?" question from before.

    well yes, other professions can do other things in a different way, that's the nature of the game. Wouldn't it be boring if everyone would only play optimized? I like to be able to stand toe to toe with my foes when I help my downed friends. I'm literally between the enemy and my ally. I can initiate the battle, switch to a crowd control pet and speedress my ally with the quickness utility.

    I just like the playstyle of Rangers in melee + the option to switch to a really good ranged weapon. Personally I don't care what other professions can do better or worse, that's just not me. I play the profession which is fun for me, not what is supposed to be better. I don't switch professions if another nerv is incoming, I just play on and focus on the things that are fun to do. Yes, I could play a hammer guardian and autocast skill 1 for perma-protections... it's just not fun for me.
