Yesterday was a chance for the British people to forget for one day, the recession, the wars, the shit and just have some fun! The fact that with over 1 million people there, there was less than 100 arrests just shows the great atmosphere and positive energy of the event.
To those citing the anti-Iraq war march: Yes, 2 million people were in London that day, and less than 2 million people were there today.
However:
How many Brits watched the anti-Iraq war march?
How many watched the Royal Wedding?
How big was the international audience for the anti-Iraq war march?
How big was the international audience for the Royal Wedding?
I'd say when you factor in the full scope of interest for each event, you'll find the Royal Wedding was FAR more popular.
I'm a Brit and I think I'm quite patriotic, I've served my country, I know my national anthem, I love my Queen and flag... but yesterday wasn't just for patriots, it was a day for our whole nation to enjoy and celebrate.
And we did... 5,500 street parties (official and unofficial) across the nation? Sounds like a fucking big party to me.
