Both actually, I just found it easy to make an unkillable tank in DA2, sitting on 80 % magic resist, dmg resist, armor and defense atm... But I still like it, DA2 has more of an action rpg style with a lot more focus on the interrogation part of the game with other npc's etc. Wehre as Dragon age: Origins had a lot more choises in how you wanted to play, who you wanted to recruit, etc.

There is also the mod called Hentai Mania for Oblivion, which adds a ton of dungeons with rewards and a progression line. Let us not forget the more races mod, like chocolate elves etc. By using these you can get a vast amount of different looking npc's, Companions (through a mod) and pc's.

Oh and oblvion has gooten a lot of praise through the years, I tend to go back and play it for like 3 hours every week, mainly because I have turned every single stone in the the game + my 70+ mods.

Oblivion: "Oh hi. Please take this bundle of stuff to here. Kill ten arglebargles. Please escort the NPC here and there. Kill ten more arglebargles. Get the magic doodad. Kill King Arglebargle. U SAVED WORLD YAY! We now return to our regularly scheduled programming of NPCs mindlessly wandering and muttering about mudkips. Sorry, mudcrabs."

Witcher: "Oh hi. Try not to gnaw your own legs off trying to master the combat system. Still here? Oh good. Let's get started. Humans are Nazies and elves and dwarves are Muslim Terrorists. You somehow start on good terms with both. Eventually you have to side with one of them, the other will hate you forever and make you feel like an asshole for not siding with them. And by the way, that seemingly insignificant choice you made in Chapter 1? It'll come and haunt you three chapters later. And also there's a civil war brewing and a massive conspiracy. Have fun untangling it all. Witcher, witcher, son-of-a-bitch-er."

What I'm trying to say I guess is that Oblivion is a typical castrated Western RPG with plenty of fedex quests and a bland story. Witcher has its own share of hang-ups (there are some "kill 10 arglebargles" quests and some moderately bad translations), but it plays like reading a good book.

Of RPG fans, I'm willing to wager you're in a pretty minority position when you submit that The Elder Scrolls is just plain bad.

The above quotation pretty much sums up the only redeemable quality about The Witcher.

Oblivion is by far my favorite game. Got around 500 hours racked up so I know what I'm talking about. Plus skyrim is gonna be out in November and that is going to be incredible as bethesda has put major work into it

I like Oblivion but dear lord dont get it for a console. The controls will frustrate the hell out of you. Also the melee combat is so limited its laughable. Overall, I still enjoyed it though, especially the Knights of the Nine.

Obviously! Anyway OP is asking for Oblivion and The Witcher, wich is a PC-Only release, so I guess he don't consider in any case to play an occidental RPG on console.

If you're going to play an older RPG, you can do far better than Oblivion. It's one of those games you'll either really love or really hate. Personally, I never found it to be very good. It aimed high but it was far from good.

As an RPG the Witcher significantly better. It is a very good game.

If you go for Oblivion I would keep away from the main storyline. I would even go as far as download an alternative start mod so you don't have to go through the poor introduction. You would also want to make sure you download OOO to remove level scaling, and all of the unofficial (and official) patches/bug fixes.

The Elder Scrolls is a very good series, but Oblivion wasn't what I wanted it to be after playing the others.

If you thought Oblivion was good, try out Morrowind, it's abit old school but amazing none the less

Oblivion is way overrated, so for me it's The Witcher. Better story, hands down. The combat isn't the best though in the witcher.

But waiting for Skyrim, waiting more for Withcer 2.

PS. The Witcher: The Last wish is an awesome book.

Hello fellow mmo-champs.... I was planning on doing a couple of rpg titles that I've missed out on (please don't flame me because of this) and was wondering which of the two mentioned in the title I should try out. I've narrowed it down to these two, based on what many claim to be the best rpg titles for some time now. Also preparing for the sequels planned this year for both games.

One thing I've noticed, and that I would like someone to clarify for me - what's up with all the mods for TES IV? Do I really need to get a bunch of these to enjoy the game by today's standards or what?

    *needs more coffee*

Please for the love of all that is holy, let me know if I'm crazy going back to games as old as these. People always seem to have a special place for their favourite games and therefore associate their feelings from past when commenting on a game. But as I've never played any of these games before, my first impression will be based by current standards, does this mean I'm gonna get disappointed either way?

    *gets back to work.../shrug*
I'd play The Witcher if I were you, Oblivion isn't that good unless you have A TON of mods and it's a hassle to fix it compared to Witcher.
And The Witcher 2 is releasing in two weeks so you'd be ready for it

So what would you recommend instead?

I started playing the witcher for the first time a few days ago, it's a lot of fun. Oblivion is a great game, but it is very dated now.

IMO, go oblivion, although at the moment, I myself am installing the witcher again. I tried playing the witcher twice now, the first time I got stuck after an hour or 2 when an npc just vanished, and quit because of that, and the combat system. Second time, I didn't even finish the intro questline, because I hated the combat gonna go for strike 3 this evening
