    Help building Gaming Desktop

Hey guys, just needing a little bit a guidance here. I have $800 to spend on a desktop (I already have a monitor) I built one myself but I was wondering if anyone knew little things that could make the machine run faster, please link a guide to your computer build. Please use www.frys.com because I need it ASAP and I don't want to wait for Newegg.

    Thanks guys!

all you need for a good gaming desktop is a flat piece of wood, hardwood works pretty good and 4 legs to keep it balanced.

Replace the processor with a Amd PhenomII ...Anthlons are really not that great for gaming. Only do it if you can spend the cash which probably is around $50+

    VCard - EVGA GTX 550 Ti 1GB

Doesn't the GTX 460 clock better in games as opposed to GTX 550?

    Power Supply - Thermaltake TR2 600W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i5 i7 Ready

Does this matter that it says Intel Core i5 i7 ready, yet he wants AMD processor?

PS: I'm RL friends with Vamp so just tryin to help.

I don't think it matters. To my knowledge you just need a motherboard that is compatible with your CPU. And the correct type of RAM slots for your RAM. But I would double check

if you are willing to swap to an intel build i have put together an I3 2100 sandy bridge build for you it saves about 10$ before rebates and offers way better performance
    simply change out the following
    motherboard - MSI H67MA-E45 B3 Intel H67 1155 Motherboard
    ram - DDR3 4GB 1333MHz TWIN CORSAIR TW3X4G1333C9A - the h67 chipset don't provide ram overclocking for 1600 ram
cpu - Intel Core i3 2100 Box Socket 1155 performance wise this proc will beat out any of amds quad cores at stock speeds
also remove the Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus Cooler as stock intel cooler is more then enough
other then that all the other parts you mentioned will be just fine
    came to 754.92$
you mentioned not waiting so i assume you are going to pick up locally and according to the site the motherboard i listed is only available for local pickup anyhow
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
you didn't mention if you have an existing optical drive that you plan to use
ASUS 24X OEM DVDRW according to other sites this drive is sata so you should be able to use it with your new system without any adapter

If you haven't purchased this computer yet, get the model number from each of these newegg items (On each item, go to the 'Details' tab and it's under 'Model'), then walk into fry's with the general name and model number (i.e. evga gtx 460 : 01G-P3-1373-AR) of each item and ask them for a total of everything. tell them newegg's total also maybe they will consider coming close to it

AMD is good, but you are building an $800 computer. That's not a budget-build, per-say, and so I'd recommend going Intel, even if it's a non-k CPU.

You can always buy the P8P67-M motherboard and then later upgrade to a i5 2500k when the i5 2400 isn't cutting it anymore

edit: pick whatever case you want, that's just a good, cheap reference case

I built yours, but I still needed an Optical Drive, a Heatsink, and a Wireless Network card, pushed it to $934

OS- You can get Win7 64 pro for a total of $43 with a valid .edu email.. I used my neices to get mine. A simple Registry edit or double install and it will work like a full version. That is $97 you can spend somewhere else

VCard- A 550 is a waste, the best performance in the $150 a below range would be a Radeon 6850 if you can't get one off that site then a 460 will be better.

Id shot for a P67 MB myself and toss in a low I5, you will have much more Upgrade potential as the Current AMD chips just Under performers in gaming by a landslide.

One thing while building a Budget system..... Patients

It took me 4 months to assemble mine but I saved close to $400 doing so and I ended up with a system that wont need a upgrade for close to 2 years if not longer.

You don't need a heatsink, the CPU will come with an OEM one that will work fine. Wireless card I suppose you would need, same with an optical drive. Neither of those should cost more than $40/$30 each, respectively.
