Have you actually tried listening to songs from other bands/groups/artists? In my experience with people who doesn't appreciate kpop like I do (friends/family), their main reasons are that they don't understand the lyrics. But once you get passed that, and realize that the music itself is good (It's also possible to look up lyrics if you really want to!), a whole ocean of new awesome music is there waiting for you

The first K/K-pop that I listened was probably Gangnam Style too, and if you liked it, it's possible that you will like other songs of both Psy and other K/J-pop bands.

There's plenty of songs in this thread, all you need to do is listen to them.

I don't understand what they say, but it really doesn't matter to me. Maybe, if I knew the lyrics, I'm sure I would "hate" a lot more songs that I have heard so far.

I don't understand it either, and just like you I don't think really matters. I was just saying that most people I've showed kpop and didn't like, didn't because they didn't understand the lyrics. I listen to kpop because the music is so upbeat, catchy and just really joyful. It makes me happy, especially with songs like Oppa, Oppa! What they sing about really makes no difference to me. ^^

And yes, I agree with you, K/J-pop makes me happy, their songs are pretty catchy and are, by definition, happy songs, it's awesome! Maybe it's their voice, their way of singing that makes their songs happy, or maybe it's just because we don't get the lyrics and think that they are happy, it doesn't really matter, as long as we like it.

And Oppa Oppa is an amazing song, I love it, it's funny and happy.

Also: Gain of Brown Eyed Girls released a new album around two weeks ago, and it contains a love making-scene causing quite heated discussions in the YouTube comments. Even saw a comment on HyunA's Ice Cream MV where someone called Gain's MV a porn video.. Pff.

I read somewhere that the video is suited for ages +19, but I don't see any restrictions on the actual video.. This is no worse than "sex scenes" in a typical romance movie (no nudes).

Wow, really? I watched the MV and I must say, it's one of the best I have seen so far, the song and the video are just amazing, the lyrics are good and the sex scene makes sense, because the lyrics talk about it. Also, the sex scene isn't something to be scared with, they barely make any movements in the scenes, not even close to what movies show. If they say that is porno, lol, then all the movies out there that show sex/love scenes are porn.

I hope you don't mean the abomination of a song that Psy did with that chick for the "female" version of Gangnam style. She either has the worst voice of a korean singer ever, she's not giving the koreans justice in music or KPop outside of random "hits" are all horrible. ;P

The only Gangnam style I heard was made by Psy featuring Hyuna, I don't know of any Gangnam style female version.

HyunA's voice is autotuned like F in that song, while she's far, far from the best singer in Korea, she's much better than in that song. I heard from someone, can't remember who, that they autotuned her voice to sound like women from Gangnam, joking about them even more. But I have no idea if that's true or not. Her part in the song is indeed quite horrible.

I must say that I like her rapping, and Ice Cream is way above my expectations from her.

The way I got into K-pop in the first place was through WoW actually; I was watching some random pvp/funny/whatever ideo which happened to have a nice sounding guitar riff in one bit and it turned out to be a clip from a DBSK song. And thus began my foray into Korean entertainment/culture....
Personally I'm somewhat of a fan of SNSD and more or less follow their actions mostly, though i got nothing against other artists. Being a guy, I prefer to watch stuff with female idols but some of the male idols seem funny as well. With the whole funny aspect I mean korean variety shows, which I enjoy on a regular basis. Musicwise I don't really care if it's a boy/girl group as long as the song is catchy/danceable
