Our login system has detected a change...

    I am livid.

I tried logging onto WoW, and I got this message.

"Our login system has detected a change in your access pattern."

You've got to be fucking kidding me. So, because I don't dwell in a basement, I get punished? I play WoW at 4 different houses, only two of each having the same area code. And I've been doing this forever, ever since I bought WoW in 2006. Almost 5 years later, I get this error message. I haven't been moving more often than usual either!

I have an authenticator, and I got it because I wanted to core hound pet. I never needed Blizzard to hold my hand for account security, I don't even look at porn for gobs sake. But, because I like to play WoW at different places, I get punished. Yeah, I realize that it's not "my" account. But I haven't broken any rules, and I've checked that too. It just seems downright unlawful to restrict access with no reason other than "lulz weez gun safe ur akownt." Does Blizzard really need to cater to the retard snowflake generation? I swear, if someone gets their account "hacked" they deserve it.

I can't even post on the forums to ask about this, I have to call goddamn account services or billing or whatever, I've looked around and have seen multiple numbers I should call. Unfortunately for me, I can't fucking talk on the phone to a stranger. I am the most anxious person I know, I take fucking pills for this shit or I'll literally vomit from stress. So I have to wait for someone I know to call for me, so I can play the game I pay for.

And I realize it's silly to rage about not playing a video game, but I can't help but feel this is something Blizzard has gotten completely wrong.

As for this thread, I'm asking for opinions on my reaction and the actual login system locking my account.

So you are not a basement dweller but you cannot even pick up the phone to call them about your money?

I would call for you if you want...

My ISP upgraded their network a few weeks back which changed my IP address and I got that message when I logged in after they were done with the upgrade. I thought it was odd because I've played WoW on the laptop from other people's houses (with different IP addresses) without issue.

However, you shouldn't have to call anybody. It is a fast 5-minute fix.

Try logging in again to get that popup message. There should be an account services URL in that popup. Go to that URL and it'll have you enter a few pieces of information and then ask you to set a new password. Viola, you're good to go again.

It doesn't take long to fix. I have a 26-character password that I prefer for this account. Whenever Blizzard starts saying "your access patterns have changed", which happens whenever my company changes anything about the network at the office, I just change the password once, then change it back. Problem solved.

I got the same thing because I bought a game card instead of a subscription (I have never used a game card on my account).
Its a good security measure, it takes around 30 seconds to fix once you get the email.

Why come to forums and complain about it? a lot of people get the same message which takes no time at all to fix but you come and whine about it?

What would you do if someone really was trying to hack your account and they DIDN'T block it? you would complain like anything "Blizzard has got it wrong"

You don't need to call, you get an email which links you to the security page at Battle.net. You type in a few pieces of info (Game code, secret question etc) then you type in a password and login as normal.

It's not like I'm shy or get nervous, I get literally sick because I don't get enough serotonin.

    https://us.battle.net/account/suppor...ord-reset.html

That's the link it gave me.

    1. I forgot my battle.net account password and want to reset it.
    2. I think my account may have been hacked.
    3. I've lost my authenticator and I want to remove it from my account.
    4. I have a World of Warcraft account and can't log in now.
4.a. I haven't played World of Warcraft since 2009 and can't log in.
4.b. I haven't merged my World of Warcraft account and I forgot my password.
4.c. I haven't merged my World of Warcraft account and I lost access to the email address I registered to it.

I have no idea which one to do, because none of them are for what happened to me.

Man, OP is nerdragin' like a champ... "Damn you Blizzard for trying to take proactive steps to save me the headache of getting my account hacked, f*** you!"

OT: For a while I also played between two(+) locations and would get this message every now and again. I never once had to call account services, they simply sent me an email that contained a link to verify my identity; after that it was smooth sailing. Occasionally, I wouldn't get an email so I'd simply change my password and that would do the same thing.

Lie and select #1. It really doesn't matter if you actually forgot it. Just change the password to a new one, and then change it back. Simple

You can't blame them for being precautius. They are only trying to help.

Altho, I feel sorry for you for not even being able to talk on the phone without getting stressed out. Must be hard to live a normal life.

Yeah, pimpin' ain't easy. Luckily the internet allows me to remain anonymous and lie about being awesome. And I do blame them for being precautious, because if I didn't come on here and find out I didn't have to call, I'd have to wait 24 hours from now. And my boss says I can't miss that much whiptail farming.

that's the case actually. Why do I (hypothetically) have to change my beloved password because of some flaw in their security system?

Well false positive is much more better than false negative, but still it's false!

Yeah, actually making this thread not only made me feel better, but some badass (Darsithis) gave me a super better alternative.

Like most people said, it's an easy fix.. Check your email account tied to your battle.net account, I believe they send you an automated email when this happens (so, you know, if it was in fact someone else logging in to your account you would be notified).
